They played both of these new songs when I saw them in February. I talked to Dave after the show, he said they wrote “Ascending Melody” two days prior to the event!

They may be cheaper, but I certainly don’t feel like a felon recording digitally. And yeah, I see his point as well. If he wants to stick to his ways, stick to his ways. And just the night before, I while I ate dinner with 4 or 5 co-workers, at one time, at least three of them were on the their cell phones. *sigh*

Sorry, Jack White. All I can afford as a recording musician still in college is Pro Tools and a shitty Radio Shack mic.

Well they’re sure no Psychedelic Horseshit…

Just kidding. I love Sonic Youth. Looking forward to hearing this album.

Saw them at Hampshire College last week, they hated on Ariel Pink and Dr. Dre too! (“Turn up my treble, I sound like some fucking Ariel Pink shit, some Dr. Dre beats or some shit like that.”)

I saw them at Benington College (sort of a weird place) at the beginning of their tour in February. I managed to get a set list:

Cannibal Resource
Remade Horizon
Bitte Orca
Stillness is the Move
Ground Underfoot
Black Dove
The Bride
Ascending Melo[dy]
World Emblem
Fluorescent H.D. (I forgot what the H.D. stands for…)
Knotty Pine

The show was ridiculous. I was talking to Nat Baldwin, their bassist, and the drummer; they told me that “Ascending Melody” was written two days prior. I don’t know if they’re playing it at SXSW, but it’s clearly not on the album. It’s just this crazy crescendo of a song that ends with over distortion and smashing drums – and then in true DPs style, at least as far as I remember, went into a beautiful vocal harmony. I also talked to Dave after the show – what a nice guy! Anyway, I’m super excited for this album, more so than anything in awhile.

Arrogant Sons of Bitches, one of the better you bands you mentioned, is Jeff Rosenstock’s (from Bomb) old band that were incredible. I feel like Bomb is very similar, just with less horns. I don’t know any other ska bands (I don’t think) from LI besides those two though, and they both always have a special place in my <3. But yeah, Quote Unquote records has been putting out free stuff longer than Radiohead! That’s totally fair.
