Yeah, I would say the only loss would be missing out on that little bit of ambient music they have during the countdown at the start of the livestream premiere for each chapter. Though IDK, maybe I like it so much because when I thought it was one of the new tracks, it seemed like something else a little different from them, and a nice palette cleanser partway though the album. (Granted, I haven't heard chapter 4 yet, so it's possible that it's an excerpt from one of those songs.)
Oh man! Was gonna Howse chapter 4 until Thursday evening. What to do, what to do. Also, I love this stark, shadowy photography they've been using for the band photos in this era. (And apparently Victoria and I have matching nails right now. Though hers look better, and mine looks much more "fuck how much more can I get out of this bottle" raggedy.)
Oh wow, didn't realize this had moved to Wednesdays this week (or... always?). Also, I think just getting new FKA twigs (even non-peak twigs) and that batch of new Beach House songs in January went a really long way towards 2022 beating 2021 musically.
WHOA, definitely a track that on first listen had me going "what the fuck am I even listening to??" I think I like it? (Also, finally! A release date!)
Aw man! So Susanne Sundfør on not one, but two, tracks, and Alison Goldfrapp as well? Thanks for reaching into my dreams and giving me what I wanted, Röyksopp! (Well, ok, the next best thing after a full on EP collab with Sundfør.) Super excited to hear the track with Pixx too! (Track list with the artist features as well here: https://store.pias.com/release/287455-royksopp-profound-mysteries)
I'm not familiar with Astrid S, but history has shown that Röyksopp + Susanne Sundfør = fucking gold, so this is super exciting news! Thanks!
First off, congratulations! Second, there are those Rockabye Baby albums where they put out lullaby versions of songs from everyone from The Beatles to Kanye to The Pixies. The arrangements/instrumentation can be pretty fun--I really like the Radiohead one and was listening to it for a bit last year (and no, I don't have kids). Granted, I don't know how peaceful your kid's dreams are going to be if they're nodding off to "Knives Out" or "Sail to the Moon" or whatever, but eh, never to young to start getting them use to the sense of unease and anxiety modern life can bring, I guess? Also, I imagine Vespertine would be good for this too. I mean, there's "Frosti" if nothing else, but I would think it can't hurt to expose your child early to the glory and majesty that is "Hidden Place."
IDK, this song is better than the comments here led me to believe. Though I find that sort of metal singing goofy half the time in actual metal songs too.
Man, also, for this one and the chapter 2 song animation premieres, I've just had them playing in the background, and didn't realize that the ambient intro is just a countdown. I was confused about that last time! It's nice though, I kinda want it to be on the album too.
Yes, I am here for that goth club/Depeche Mode vibe! Reminds me a little bit of when Tamaryn started incorporating Pretty Hate Machine-style industrial synth pop and 80s Depeche Mode influences into some of the songs on her last album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7PxeKe076g
Man, the audio quality in the Discord listening party is pure butt. I guess it's fine if you want to get a tinny idea of what the songs are like and freak out over new BH? But 10 pm it is for me.
FYI, if you don't feel like staying up late for it to hit streaming services, there's a listening party on their Discord at 6 pm EST/3 pm PST today, and the lyric animations premiere at 10 pm EST/7 pm PST on YouTube. (Also, I feel like someone on Reddit was saying a month or so back that if you pre-ordered on SubPop, you get the entire album stream with the January drop... though looking at their site it looks like you don't get the whole album stream until up to two weeks before the physical release date?)
That is some commendable commitment to not littering though.
This is a fine schtick and all, but tbh I will be disappointed if rj is on an episode and it isn't at least partially about unraveling the 311 conspiracy.
Not sure if it's been a while or not since you've last listened to her, but I feel like her songwriting has gotten palpably stronger with each body of work she's put out--and I'm not someone who normally listens to something and can pick up whether it's good/bad/strong songwriting. If you haven't already, I would check out the M3LLI55X EP or MAGDALENE (though the songs on MAGDALENE often have a kind of... understatedness?... that's not always as appealing to me, and I have to be in the right mood to appreciate it.) (And if you have already checked them out, then agree to disagree it is then. 🙂)
In addition to the Lost Tapes tracks a few years ago, they also put out this one-off single with Susanne Sundfør riiiight at the end of summer in 2016, late enough for it to miss the chance to be (my) song of the summer... which is a shame since this song is 1000% a bop, and further proof that Röyksopp + Susanne Sundfør = 🔥🔥🔥 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kK5EK7V88ns
Ok, so on one hand maybe it's a little silly of me to quibble about Tom's scores in the same way that it's silly to quibble about album rankings in a Best Of list, but on the other hand, come on, "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)" is at least an 11.
I was a bit more of a Hello person, but oh man, Poe! And yeah, I think it was because of some label quagmire b.s. I would be surprised if that's still the case, since it has been legit 20 years now, but who knows.
Yep! And I've had it, and sometimes Faith in Strangers, perched on display on top of a bookshelf since I put up said bookshelf.
Oh man, sorry about your car (from a long time ago) and fav CDs! That's pretty crazy. Mine was the pre-order for the new Beach House, but if we're talking about something I've already held in my hands, I think last year's Andy Stott album? (So I guess last year was a slow CD-buying year for me, since that was I think in the spring.)
