Right, yes, sure, but who's the songwriter here? Hopefully not Liam.
Are you sure that isn't Skinny Christian Bale fronting Jane's Addiction....?
Nice. I love sprawling AGIB Wilco but I also love their short and sweet songs (like the new singles). ~36 minutes is a perfect album length, I think.
Anyone with itunes want to share how long the album is? Curious, since SW was so economical.
Good to know, thanks! But then you have situations where (say in a rock song) someone might write the SONG but then the guitarist comes up with a solo. That's often not credited, even though it's an integral part of the song. I wouldn't call that songwriting, but then I wouldn't call a tweak to the drum programming songwriting. Example: Wilco's "Side with the Seeds" is credited to Tweedy/Jorgensen, but the best part of the damn song is Nels Cline's insanely melodic solos. No credit though (unless I'm missing it). (I'm not trying to argue here or anything, I just feel that the term "songwriter" is thrown around arbitrarily a lot. Shouldn't laying down something like a Nels Cline solo get a songwriting credit if a couple lines of poetry get one? I dunno. Maybe it's different between genres, where there's more money to be made in pop royalties.)
(For the record, I think of Swift as the kind of songwriter who writes, well, everything, though I know that having one arbiter happens less and less in the pop world unless you're Grimes or something.)
And of course all of the he said/she said/he gifed/she gifed of social media made it all the more confusing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This is something I've routinely been confused by, and that most websites/magazines/etc. tend not to specify: What is meant by "songwriting"? I was genuinely confused by this Swift/Harris beef as it unfolded, because we had "Swift recorded demo and singing on piano" followed by "Calvin Harris wrote the music" followed by "Taylor Swift is a great songwriter" and now clarification (she wrote the lyrics and melody). Is that---writing lyrics and melody---songwriter designation? I don't see why it shouldn't be, I've just always been confused by what different places/sources MEAN when they call someone a songwriter. Thoughts, y'all?
The Strokes playing "Take It Or Leave It" on Letterman is untouchable IMO. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3ZMabdnEwc
baby, you got a STEW going! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr2PlqXw03Y
^^^^^ Ted Nugent is among the most unpleasant human beings, let alone musicians. Ugh.
I would really like it if Noel Gallagher wrote a rock memoir where he just took the whole industry to task in typically hilarious Noel Gallagher fashion. Dude is a goldmine.
I have been WAITING for this. I love it!
I'd genuinely love to see what a Strokes/Julian/Human Sadness meme/vine looks like in 2016. I assume one is a gif of Jules breaking stuff in that Lonely Island vid?
So this is the song of the summer, right? Right.
I read somewhere that they might be streaming it on the Cult site later today
I like this one more than "Oblivius," this is fantastically strange.
This is one of those songs that is so, so, so much better the second time you listen to it. It's pretty bizarre/alienating/disjointed on a first listen, but then all the pieces fall into place.
I wonder what the bonus songs are? Could one be....LIFT?!?!?!?!
