Oh wow... Too bad I can't downvote my own post! But since we're here for the music anyway, I might as well say that I like that new single a lot more than the previous one. Looking forward for that album.
Except it isn't their "first new music since they supposedly called it quits in 2016"... This is actually the second single from the upcoming album. https://www.stereogum.com/2151534/sally-shapiro-fading-away/music/
Fais comme l'oiseau is also a cover, from French legend Michel Fugain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rd6ufpAOt1E
I like this! I just preordered it on their Bandcamp I somehow the download link included the full album. So if you dig it, you know what to do.
"Unfortunately I’m getting married" sure makes it sound like you're looking forward that special day! ;)
I only listened to half the albums on the list, so I'm not complaining about the choice. I just think I should mention two of the albums I listened to most to, this year, are "All Melody" by Nils Frahm and "Portrait with Firewood" by DJrum. I think both are amazing. It also think Skee Mask's "Compro" is equally amazing, but it's already on this list. Also, if you feel like discovering some French songs with a touch of electronics to them, even if it's not really an "electronic album", I highly recommend Flavien Berger's "Contretemps".
That album has always been a great source of frustration for me, mostly because it is too long. They should have cut everything after "Pug" and instead add "Eye" (from Lost Highway soundtrack) and any of the two versions of their Batman song ("The Beginning Is the End is the Beginning") and it would have been one of my favorite album ever. Those two last songs are my two favorite Smashing Pumpkins songs, and I remember that both got me very very excited for Adore, since they came out in the year leading to its release. Every time I listen to that album I can't believe how amazing it is until I get to "The Tale of Dusty and Pistol Pete", and then I get depressed.
Very strange list, if you ask me. Mine would include "Any Day Now", "Fallen Angel", "Fugitive Motel", "Mirrorball", just right off the top of my head. "Cast of Thousands" is an amazing album, their best imho.
The Sudan Archives track is great, but alas, I can assure you there are no trills in there. It may sound fancy using classical music terms just because, you know, violin, but they actually refer to specific things.
Yeah Sleeping Powder was my favorite Humanz track, except is wasn't on Humanz. The harpsichord was more present on the live version, a detail that made me like it even more. I'm still hoping the re-record it that way for the new album.
Sounds very nice. I too was dissapointed by Humanz (althought probably not as much as most people). But this new song is the kind of groove I like very much. Can't wait to hear the studio version.
"Eye" is so much better than anything else they've recorded! Also: "The End is the Beginning is the End". Soundtracks rule, I guess.
I can't remember where I read this, but I recall Hebden saying he would put out an album this fall.
Out of curiosity, could we have the top 20 results? I understand songs 11 to 20 are not worthy of a nice Stereogum post with a youtube player, but still... Please?
Taylor Swift's whole career was built on insincerity.
I'm already not a big fan of the streaming movement. But seriously, in this case, it's even more ridiculous. Adult Swim are not a streaming service. Their songs can't be put in a playlist. I don't see myself going on their website very often just to listen to one or two songs. They did the same thing on their "Luxe" album. It's full of artists I like. I streamed it once but never went back to it... If I had the album on my phone tho, I'm sure I would have listened to it much more, probably would have spotted those 3 or 4 songs I prefer and put them in one of my playlists. But maybe that's just me being an old fart.
There's also a countdown on this site...
I can't believe that I have to point out on this blog that "Blue Monday" is a New Order song, not a Depeche Mode one...
I'm as excited for this album as I would be for a new Hot Chip album. The two first singles are fabulous.
