Yeah, I was also hoping Charli XCX would make this list. But that's OK, I know where she places on my list (yep, #1). St. Vincent is awesome, but I don't feel like she had as good a year as Charli, and that does go into my consideration in these matters. Personality is also important. Also: physical hotness.
"Oblivion" and "Bad Girls" were definitely my top two as well. I've only seen the PSY video once, watching over someone's shoulder who was watching it on an iPad. So I didn't get a great look at it. Can't think of anything else I'd include, except for Chairlift's "Met Before."
Oh, I didn't realize that BOTH lines would trail off the page like that. Basically I made a scathingly sarcastic remark about me being downvoted, then ended with a Gladiator quote in all caps, all of which in no way makes me look any more level-headed than I have so far.

a.j.howard09: I'll grant you that my sentence about Pavement was written in an objective-fact style, since there's no "I think Pavement is..." to introduce my sentiment there. But I think I did a good job of stressing the subjectivity of my response to Japandroids in the earlier sentences. But still, fair point on your part.
I mainly took issue with HartfordTheWhale's remark on my lack of airtight logic, when his statement about my argument being invalid wasn't really any better logic on his part, although I suppose that was his point. But I have begun to question my initial vehemence now that I find myself in opposition to someone named HartfordTheWhale, which is such a loveable name that I can't help but think I've become the bad guy in this fight that I've started for just no damn reason at all (it also doesn't help that I have a "tron" at the end of my own name). And having successfully gotten through my powerpoint presentation for my class today, un-stressed-out me is a bit abashed to acknowledge that I told the Japandroids song to go to hell, which was just an unnecessary provocation regarding a song that's really not bad. I just don't care for it, is what I meant to say. And I can't be mad at someone who was merely offended by a remark that I made about a band that I know a lot of people love. Well that's fine if you personally find their music to be of a very high quality, but your claim that my badmouthing Pavement renders my argument invalid suggests that Pavement's music is objectively good, which cannot be true. If you had said that it renders my argument invalid to you specifically, then I couldn't argue with that. I knew that plenty of people here would disagree with my Japandroids statement, so I went ahead and threw Pavement in there as well, since my response to both bands is the same. I may be in the margins on this one, but there must be some who agree with me here.
I'd have to agree, at least in terms of that song up there. I gave it a chance, but their sound and vocals are just so far away from anything I'm capable of liking. Grizzly Bear are better at making music that I initially don't think much of, but that still has the potential to really win me over with multiple listens. Not so for Japandroids. Their sound is immediate, and in this case I immediately don't like it, nor is there any possibility of multiple listens making a difference with their music. They're like Pavement, except even less interesting. "The House That Heaven Built" can go to hell.
I was considering just posting my list on some old comment thread from 2008 or something, so that I can have the experience of getting one out there while at the same time not worrying about it actually being seen by anyone. But even that would be too much effort. I'll just sit back and wait for someone else to come up with a list that I completely agree with. It has to be possible. Slothdrop's came pretty close. But if there was a specific page for posting lists, I guess I'd be game.

raptor jesus & plb and whoever else cares: Chromatics just released a cover of New Order's "Ceremony" and, as one would expect, it's quite beautiful. Man, I'm starting to get the wonderful suspicion that Chromatics are specifically trying to become my favorite band, and succeeding. I hope at some point they'll cover something by The Cure. Can you imagine how awesome it would be if they covered "Plainsong" for instance? Ruth or Johnny (Jewel, not Rubber), if you're reading this, please cover "Plainsong." I'd pay a bag full of puppy blood to hear that.

It's gonna be hilarious if all the silent Taylor Swift supporters came out in droves to vote for Red, and it ends up even higher on the Gummys than on this list. I didn't vote for it, but I do like her music, and am thoroughly enjoying how appalled a lot of people here are in response to her inclusion on this list. C'mon Taylor Swift for Gummys # 1! Oh, that I might live to see the day!
