This might sound crazy but the melody of "Mr. Startup" reminds me of Gin Blossom's "Follow You Down". Please tell me I'm crazy.
Every time I see Parquet Courts mentioned on this site I hope not for them to finally break free of the Pavement comparison, rather I only hope that Tom doesn't take it as a chance to shit on Pavement once again.
Oh please tell us more about the evils of Obama and the goodness of your conservative principles!
I love a lot of the music Drag City releases, but why do they insist on making it increasing difficult to listen to their artists' music??
Great article. This album is wonderful and extremely under appreciated.
Dude, what are you talking about? http://consequenceofsound.net/2014/08/morrissey-yes-that-morrissey-curated-a-new-ramones-album/ "He’s also a super fan of The Ramones, who has said, in quintessential Morrissey fashion, 'my love for the Ramones would out-live time itself.'"
I have nothing against Tom's love for Tswift, but I also agree that there is soooo much good music being made that I am always a little disappointed when more Stereogum space isn't given to some of the lesser known bands and artists making music. When Tom, who is one of my favorite music writers, recently wrote that he thinks that Pavement sucks and has continually trashed Iceage on social media it kind of makes me feel cold and lonely.

Is it just me or is Matt Berninger starting to look like Bryan Cranston?
"Band members come and go, and the material’s quality waxes and wanes, but it’s always that same old SM, love him or hate him. (And many do.)" Wait, wait, wait...who hates Stephen Malkmus????
Great write up Tom, this album is great. And jesus, Ian Cohen is a douche.
Why are you the way that you are? What happened to you in high school?
That might be the coolest cover art of anything. Ever.
Been looking forward to this, these dudes are awesome and deserve much more attention. Wild Smile has to be one of the most underrated albums in recent memory.
I think Lotus Plaza's release should be considered an "album of note" because it is awesome.
List is missing The Walkmen and Suckers.
