Ahhhh man, that rhythm section is soooo good. Which makes the boring vocals all the more frustrating. I love this band so much and so far I love all the new singles instrumentally, but where the hell did Kevin's melodies go? Though I think I do love Posthumous Forgiveness as a whole.
This song is fantastic and continues my belief along with Caribou's last two albums, that if Kevin Parker was singing these songs my ears would be melting.
I don't think that neck-jerking beat is programmed. It sounds like Kevin's infectious signature human vibe on the kit. Also, I think ya'll are too quick to shit all over these singles. I think. They're all really starting to grow on me. I think.
I think in this case though, it's different. In his recent interview he said he was “unquestionably, undoubtedly, the greatest human artist of all time.” Obviously that's nothing new from Kanye, but he just made an entire album devoted to Jesus Christ. Not sure how that dude would feel about Kanye's raging narcissism. It leaves the whole thing sounding full of shit.
At the risk of over-hyping, I gotta say after 12 listens or so I feel like it may be the best album I've ever heard. Though that may just be because of where I'm at personally. Crazy how you can go years without shedding a tear only to have an artist organize vibrations in such a way that it causes a cathartic dam breach of salty fluids that fill the living room.
Still amazed that everyone on this earth doesn't agree that A Ghost Is Born in Wilco's greatest album. And I certainly don't dislike any Wilco album. Love em' all. But that one is just... geez. so great.
HA. So this is what music snobbery looks like in 2019. I remember the days when you had to actually go into a physical record store to be shot down by an overly pretentious mouth breather. Nothing against your "best" list, there's some great albums on there. But your attitude really brings back some memories of the shallow humans who took solace in pretending to be above everyone else with their almighty taste for the correct artists. But in those days, they'd be telling it to your face while you passed your cash to the record store clerk in exchange for that analogous Frank Ocean album.
Not sure if I'm alone in this camp or not, but while we're talking about artists reworking songs after release, I've always secretly wanted Beach House to release a "Thank your lucky stars Redux". I know we're all supposed to love lofi beach house, but those songs are all so great and could really benefit with just a fuller mix. Even if it just matched Bloom sonically.
This album is fantastic. But I'm pretty sure in order for you to love it, you have to do something human beings stoped doing a decade ago. I know it sounds crazy, but try it. Just play the whole album really loud out of good speakers while sitting in a comfortable chair and do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE.

His score to Suspiria was mostly horror sound experiments, but I would argue that buried in there are 4 or 5 extremely warm and heart-wrenchingly beautiful songs.
Crazy to hear the National Anthem version on MD120 at 10:05. I adore that song and to hear it in it's primitive state brings me so much joy. Wherever it is I fall in the debate of "this is so wrong/this is so right", I can't help but be thankful for this big ol' dump.
I'm fully with you, and it goes without saying I feel Trump is undoubtedly the worst president in clear historical memory. But you may not want to use the Kids in Cages argument, as that was sadly still happening under the Obama administration.
This may be a dumb question, but is this Peter Broderick's sister?
At the risk of sounding totally crazy, those merchandise prices are pretty Gematria-ish
Does anyone want to talk about how there's no video of “Don’t Fear The Light"? I don't want to be greedy, but I also want to hear that shit right now.
Patience grew on me, and off the bat I like this one a lot more. But I'm a little worried that the overly polished 80's piano is going to be littered on every song. Though with Currents Kevin definitely showed me how to appreciate certain 80's pop elements I once despised. That's the magic of Kevin Parker and I don't have much reason to doubt him this time around.
I'm also now remembering that EVERY Grizzly Bear release is a perpetually intriguing and mind boggling experience. Sorry, back to Deerhunter, who also create masterpieces.
Speaking of noughties indie rock goliaths, I finally just realized that "Painted Ruins" is actually a shimmering masterpiece.
This album really starts to open up around the 4th listen. It didn't grab me right away but at this point I kinda feel like it's pretty perfect. Even "Détournement", which people are saying is a throw away really grew on me. If Ween had done that song we'd all think it was brilliant.
hmmm. I'm confused. I feel like I've never heard a more lopsided album. The highs are so SO great. The lows are really REALLY cringeworthy. But no matter what he releases, I'll never be able to deny how talented this man is.
How exactly is Jordan Peterson a pseudo-intellectual peddling fake science? Neither extreme seems to know what to do with the middle folk, so they cast them to the opposite extreme in an attempt to publicly burn their character. Though I agree Scott Adams seems to be full of shit.
Thank god this wasn't about sexual misconduct.
Ya, I feel there must be more to this story, and this is a preemptive apology to something that he knows is going to come out. This story just doesn't make much sense. I smell downvotes.
I'm a 32 year old man, and I'm crying. This one hit me hard. Good stuff, folks.
On paper, I would have thought that Beck could pull off a great Pop Banger record. Hell, Kevin Parker did it. Surely Beck could do it, right?. NOPE.
Yup, 100% the case for me. I love this band to death and when the singles starting dropping I was so disappointed (with the exception of Four Cypresses). But when I heard them all within the context of the complete album, everything was firing off beautifully. Absolutely love this whole album. It's a perfect example of how this band is just not a singles band, it's all about devouring the full sonic adventure in one go. Can't get enough of that groove on the verse for Cut-Out.
Grizzly Bear is one of my favorite bands, and all of these new songs have seriously amazing moments. But these singles are kinda making me wish for just a full length Daniel Rossen solo album.
Well I hands down couldn't agree more. Absolutely stunning.
anyone know who produced the album? having a hard time finding that out.
Yup, looks like I'm still in love with Jenny Lee.
Is there nowhere we can hear the first single? I've been waiting for this for 10 years and refuse to wait longer.
That would be the lovely Anna Wise.
I disagree. These ambient farts are probably some subtle building blocks for actual songs on the new album. It's fun to imagine where they might go as they blossom from a fart into a miraculous shit.
This year gives us new Do Make Say Think, Broken Social Scene and Feist records. All hail the resurrection of the classic Toronto indie scene.
I have been waiting for an instrumental Dungen album for so many years now. AMAZING NEWS!... for me.
I also really love his Elliott Smith quoting abilities.
I really love this album. But I can't help but think almost all of these songs would greatly benefit from having more drums and more bass. Especially Solo, hearing a heavy rhythm section on that shit.
Here's my over optimistic suggestion. Last year EL-P said he was heading to L.A to record with Zack. So clearly the only explanation is there's a new Rage album out June 1st produced entirely be EL-P and Jesus is also there.
I still can't believe that whenever there's a a conversation about post-rock there's never any mention of Do Make Say Think. They have far more range and dynamic then any of the bands mentioned in this thread (most of whom I love as well). But Do Make is far too underrated, and perhaps they shouldn't even be shoved into the Post-Rock genre, in which case my entire point in pointless. I'll shut up.
