I didn't say they didn't influence the success- any kind of exposure can be good for a band. But I found out about Animal Collective through a friend, who sent me The Purple Bottle and I immediately fell in love and went out to buy Feels.
I think it's disrespectful that someone would try to assume that some web site is the reason I like a band.
I will say that a glowing Pitchfork review (or, Stereogum, or any number of publications) can influence me to check out a band, but it has nothing to do with how I actually perceive it once I'm listening to it. I still am bored to tears by The Field, The Mars Volta is still one of my favorite bands, etc., etc..
"AC fans are religious about their love for the band. It's truly a testament to Pitchfork's power and influence. "
Stop. Extremely extremely patronizing.
Oh God, a Menomena song just came up on my friend's shuffle the other day and I was wondering when they'd be coming out with some new stuff. They are sooooo fuckingggg good.
If your best friend gets shot to death sitting in the same car as you by people who were most likely aiming for you, you're telling me you wouldn't take measures to protect yourself- or at least understand why someone would?
That makes T.I. "a fucking idiot?"
Are you kidding me? You can't be serious.
Can there be some sort of psychological* diagnosis for these kinds of "YOU DONT LIKE MY FAVORITE BAND, BUT YOU LIKE -THIS- ONE? " comments?
*- more like psychoblogical, am i right?
I don't think it's safe to say that.
Gifted and that David Byrne track are hot shit.
I don't think I dig this that much by comparison. But it might be because of the shoddy audio quality. Naeem is branching out beyond fuck raps, which is cool.
the funny thing is, I've always been someone who was irked at the M.I.A./Santogold comparisons (I like them both a lot, and definitely consider them distinct entities) but i seriously cannot tell if/where Santi White actually is in this song.
I mean, I guess it's just preference. As a pretty large T-Pain fan, I have no problem with auto-tune. I think it is an interesting texture, I don't get "gimmick" or anything like that out of it, especially when the people using it have shown that they're certainly capable of performing without it. It's just an aesthetic choice, and I guess that's a battle that will never end.
jesus christ, I can already see the thousands of remixes and mash-ups hitting the blogs. this shit is tailor made for it, they even leave an empty space before the verses.
either way, this song is dope. PB & J are definitely impressing me lately.
The funny thing is, I just listened through all of Silent Shout last night (I am very obsessed with Forest Families at the moment) and woke up to find this.
Excellent. This video is mesmerizing.
King Khan at Pitchfork was probably the most fun I had the entire time.
And Saul at Lolla was ridiculous, it was just terrible that it was right after Black Kids and before Girl Talk.
"dude this guy is intense!"
"are you here for GT?"
"yeah, when do they come on?"
All I have to say is, Hounds of Love is indeed a fantastic album. I can't believe someone as uncompromising and bizarre as Kate Bush has achieved the success she has. That is a really wonderful freak occurrence, however it happened.
If you think all Kanye does is vain fashion references, then you have never heard We Don't Care, Spaceship, Family Business, All Falls Down, Two Words, Jesus Walks, School Spirit, Heard Em Say, Drive Slow, Bring Me Down, Diamonds from Sierra Leone (+ the remix), his verse on Put On, his verse on Go Hard, Hey Mama, Touch the Sky, Homecoming, Crack Music, Roses, Addiction, Late, Gone, I Wonder, Big Brother, Everything I Am, or any song from 808s & Heartbreaks.
but of course, these are all a very small part of Kanye West's output.
Kanye's voice is shot. We know that. Just hearing him talk, you can hear that's it's hoarse and rough.
But he cares enough about his music that he'll do whatever it takes to get it out there.
Personally, these were my favorite performances of these two songs thus far. Pinocchio Story has clunky lines, yes, undeniably, but I thought the overall effect of that modification of Heartless was pretty awesome.
Whoa, I can't believe Why? placed higher than No Age.
Not that both aren't awesome, but it's just that No Age were kind of everywhere (even MTV), and I barely saw any Alopecia coverage.
The new Bon Iver EP is great.
