I liked the dog video, but I didn't like the song. Repetitive, and unimaginative. This is not the Caribou of 2010.
It is generic. The type of music we had in the late 90s - early 2000s in Europe at the clubs. I feel I've heard it a thousand times. Her 2010-12 music was her best, then it became generic.
While Kanye is even less of a serious candidate than Trump was when he first announced, he is capable of taking away up to 3% of the vote from Democrats. Which might be enough to get Trump re-elected in swing states. Which is what this is all about. West was always a Trump supporter, so he's now helping him get re-elected.
Sorry, but there is no "music" in this song, there's just vocals. That's what I can't stand from pop music. Vocals mixed so high, where only the human voice is really audible. Music is there in the background, just to support the vocals to not sound completely acapella. It's why I mostly listen to indie music, and often to indie music with lots of reverb. More balanced and more blended.
My favorite of the 3 songs released so far from his new album.
So, that means that Mr Gonzalez wants to write music for another movie? Maybe he should do it, it'd be great, as it does sound great as such. But as an album that I'd buy to listen and have it play back on my mind while I shower, this is not it. Pop can be good, and can be bad. M83 always wrote great experimental pop that had amazing atmosphere. But this is too abstract/incoherent for my taste. It doesn't stay with me afterwards. He went MGMT on us.
Just like with her previous video, what bothers me is the fact that this is allowed on youtube, but similar videos from normal youtubers get censored. Personally, I don't mind nudity, but I do want equal treatment on youtube.
Maybe it's true where you live. But where I live, and where Madonna lives, it isn't true. So yes, she is stuck in old ideas.
Visual artistic direction and video editing is interesting and enjoyable. But neither the song, but most importantly, Madge's connection to the Church is that it's old, beaten up and boring. After 35 years, she's still a one trick pony: sex, sexual orientation problems, and the Church. I mean, come on. Does she have not anything else to say? The only good part about all this is that she only has a couple of scenes in the video, basically taking a step back from trying to show us her crotch. Look, I was a huge Madonna fan growing up. She had great music in the '80s, then again in 1998-2006, and then it has been downhill from there. She's trying to capture the moments of the past by revisiting the same themes, but the world has moved on, and she needs to move on too. I believe that Madonna is very smart, and she could do an amazing, and I mean, amazing abstract album. Think of music that sounds like Ariel Pink, John Maus, Austra, even some Nicholas Jaar in there, etc. That kind of atmosphere if you catch my drift. In fact, my most favorite video/song/direction is her track "Get Together" in 2005. The European version of the music video was so psychedelic and interesting, and her voice was BLENDING in with reverb to the music making an otherwordly track! Since then, we have her voice mixed way too high compared to the music, and her music has zero atmosphere. She sounds like an old lady screaming while trying to be relevant, when instead, she needs to invoke mystery and wiseness with her music and videos, and look at much wider problems than sex and religion. Go more philosophical, that is.
While I'm ok with nudity, I'm not ok with Youtube demonetizing or deleting no-name artists who might have some nudity, but allowing the big names/corporations to show whatever they want. It's not fair that pop stars or CNN allowed to show nudity/wars/etc while regular Joe can't. The rules should be the same for everyone.
I love Longwave, can't wait for their new album. I loved their previous 2008 one, very dreamy rock.
I agree with the OP, I like Gemini better. It's more abstract and yet more memorable. More progressive and psychedelic than his later, more pop work. I don't personally like pop much, because it keeps you grounded. Works from 2009-2012 by various indie artists were more free-formed and less rigid in terms of how the soundscapes were put together. Gemini was among the best at the time for that style.
I don't doubt it. Last year, I was told in a lucid dream by a non-human entity the age I'd die too. I guess we'll know in a few decades if it'll come true or not. I'm not in a hurry.
There is absolutely nothing interesting about these videos. It seems to me that Stereogum is looking into a very narrow pool of videos each week, from its already published news articles to pick these, instead of actually looking what's out there. Particularly the indie world contains some very interesting music videos each week.
Hehehe, awesome. :)
ooo....kay.... sooo.... who is actually selling the letter? Madonna?
Sorry, but that's just not great, not as good as previous Arcade Fire music.
Kind of reminds me the first Wild Nothing album in 2010 (which was his best).
