Nice to see "Nothin'" make the cut. That song is bleak, but very powerful.
Hard to argue with any handful of songs off of the Daft Punk record, but my rock selection would be "Freaky" by The Men.
I still get a rush of adrenaline from "The House That Heaven Built", and really all of "Celebration Rock". A couple of 90's bands released some fine singles this year as well. Superchunk's "This Summer" and The Afghan Whigs cover of Frank Ocean's "Lovecrimes" have held up well after repeated plays in the second half of 2012.
"Police & Thieves" should be in the mix somewhere. Always preferred The Clash version to the original. Wouldn't have minded seeing "Bankrobber" in the list either, but that one may not be in the top 10 for most.
Even though he didn't write it, I really like his cover of Tom Petty's "Walls" from the "Meet Glen Campbell" album. He took a sort of minor Tom Petty single, that probably should have been bigger, and then added some "Rhinestone Cowboy" type production to it. Sounds like a mess on paper, but it turned out really good in my opinion.
