I Write the B-Sides by Eels is one that I've always assumed is a reference to this song but honestly, I've never listened to I Write the Songs.
I saw them on tour behind this album and it was my one and only time seeing DCFC. There was definite strong 50-50 dichotomy between people who were there because of Plans and people who were there for the previous. I fell into the latter group and it felt like the concert fell to pieces when they played songs from Plans. I know some of that was due to it being new material but the album had already been out for a few months. I don't look at the album with the heavy dismay I originally saw it with, but I sure still don't care for it.
Saw them opening for and then backing Caitlin Rose at a show with about 40 people there. They were fantastic. Caitlin was great too. Sucks for them that no one was there tho.
I can honestly call the Decemberists my favorite band and it has always disappointed me that this album is called their best by so many. I'd put it ahead of the new one (which isn't bad by any means, it's just not as good as the others) but they have other much better work. There's 4 songs on this album of 11 songs that I can't even bring myself to listen to. Sure the other 7 are great, but those 4 bog it down so badly for me that it makes the album hard to listen to as a whole.
I just recently went to listen to Ram for the first time and thought it was one of the most god awful albums I've ever heard. I couldn't make it thru it. I honestly, no troll, want to know what you like about it.
