This list is correct!
1: Hissing Fauna, are you the destroyer?
2- whatever # yolo: everything else because nothing will ever come close to Hissing Fauna.
I remember in the 9th grade, I was walking home from school with my buddy and he told me I should listen to Tool. For some reason I had mixed up Tool and 311 so I kept telling him that Tool sucked. When we finally got to his house he played Eulogy for me and It rocked!
Later that day my mom took my brother and I to Best buy ( our power was out so this was some sort of apology). I knew I was going to buy a Tool album and my buddy suggested I should start with Undertow. I can still remember my discomfort and delight seeing all the weird album art that was put in the CD case. I can still feel the excitement of being in a dark house, listening to "sober" on my walkman, feeling connected even though I had never touched a drug in my life at that point. Within that week I went out and bought Aenima. I was hook.
Tool will always be a major part of my musical discovery. I can not tell you how many times I've had to defend them in conversation. Some people actually believe their music is dumb! I don't care what stereotype you get placed in, or what people think your music taste says about you. All I know is that Tool Fucking rules and thank you Stereogum for posting this.
TL;DR Tool fucking rules
P.s.: Just found Undertow on vinyl this week!
"Some of the blame probably falls on their third record, Amputechture. Despite containing maybe the band’s strongest single song — “Day Of The Baphomets” — it’s probably their weakest record, as long as Frances but without that record’s coherence."
...?....Tetragrammaton!
Amputechture is my favorite album. Hate that is was thrown under the bus in less than half a paragraph.
it takes a lot of balls to compress 31,557,600 minutes of existence into 2 hours of "well duh", "Are You Serious?", "WTF", and "I can't believe they didn't include Radiohead"
