It's interesting that people can do this with Kanye and not Cosby himself. Granted, Kanye just says misogynistic shit which is not the same as actually raping women. But I also think it's because Cosby's appeal was based in a large part on his sqeaky-clean dad image. Whereas with Kanye the awful behavior was always part of the package and not even something he really denies. Kanye's art is seen as more truthful than Cosby's, I suppose.
My only complaint with St. Vincent is that she played the two songs she's played on every other show. I want to see some Prince Johnny, or some Rattlesnake, or some I Prefer Your Love!
"It could be your first taste of alternative-leaning pop-rock, something that gave you a hint there was something beyond the nu-metal that dominated your hometown’s aesthetic" - that was it for me. I had heard bits of The Strokes and The White Stripes but this was the first band that made me realize how much better "alternative" rock could be than say, Linkin Park or Green Day (I was 14). It started the journey that took me to Modest Mouse and Arcade Fire later in the year, and soon after to Neutral Milk Hotel, Spoon, and My Bloody Valentine. So I would like to thank Franz Ferdinand for being a gateway cool band for suburban 14 year olds.
I was hoping lousy with sylvianbriar would get more attention. Understandably people seem to have given up on Of Montreal after their last few messy albums but the new one is really enjoyable.
My biggest issue with Kanye is this: he constantly talks about how he doesn't want to kiss anyone's ass yet expects everyone to do the same to him. If he really didn't care what people thought of him he wouldn't be blowing up when someone pokes some gentle fun at him.
This feels like when you see a movie because the trailer looked amazing, but then you find out that all the good parts of the movie were in the trailer. Except in this case the movie is just the trailer looped over and over again.
I like this song but do wish there was more to it... maybe the album version will have some kind of epic outro?
This list is totally predictable. Which is not a bad thing! Pitchfork lists are not Breaking Bad episodes. So good job Pitchfork for being consistent, and for including Death Grips and Swans in your top 10.
