That is a very good cover and it really doesn't have any trace of the original whatsoever. But that opening bass sounds so much like one track by The xx. "Crystallized"?
Goddamn this is terrific. I hope both Annie and Katy can continue to produce fierce dance tracks like this
The new Annie song is absolutely smashing. Much better than Tube Stops and Lonely Hearts. Also, don't forget "Safe With Me" by Sam Smith.
Take out "You wanted a hit", add in "yeah (crass version)" and this will be a flawless top 10.
When I read the story behind "Helicopter", my perception of the song has changed forever. I thought it was this dreamy, sort of romantic song, but it's heartbreaking and sad.
Since "Latch" and "White Noise" are such absolute monsters, this breezy single left me underwhelmed and wanting for more. I guess the vocalist (Eliza) doesn't compel me as much as Aluna or Sam Smith did.
Anytime a friend of mine asks me "What should I listen to if I want to start this whole indie music thing?", I'd tell them straight up Kaputt by Destroyer. It's just a gorgeous, deceptively simple, impeccably made, and extremely ACCESSIBLE. And don't even get me started on "Bay of Pigs" and how I feel every time those synth start.
Blue Ocean Floor is the best of the bunch. Don't Hold The Wall comes in close second. I don't get the whole D'Angelo comparison either.
The second part of Pusher Love Girl is so damn ridiculously fun and great. I am in love.
my god, it is so gorgeous and dreamy as ever
Wait, I'm kind of confused because I thought EDM is a totally different genre from what Blawan, Joy Orbison & Disclosure are doing?
Claire, after reading your post, I had to go on Youtube and listen to Fantasy again. Such a great fun track.
My only quibble with the list is some artists like Kendrick & Frank Ocean have three tracks on it (yes, they are all brilliant no doubt), but I wish Pitchfork had made it two songs per artists, and then they can have more diversity (add Perfume Genius, The Walkmen, any track from Kindred, Evy Jane). Still a great Top 10 and I LOVE #1 choice.
"Aaliyah" is business. She & Ware killing it.
The eligibility period has always been from the October of last year to the September of this year. So as long as your album is released in this time range and you/your label actually submit albums/songs, you will be considered for nominations. I know lots of people will complain about why this/that album isn't nominated. That may be because the label didn't even submit the work in the first place.
Song of the Year goes to the song-writer, and Record will go to the performer, producer, and the engineer team.
If somehow Chris Brown beat Frank in that Best Urban Contemporary Album, I'll be in an ocean of tears
Does anyone know whether those lists count EP or not? I refuse to believe Burial's Kindred is simply forgotten that easily.
Wow, no Burial? Or Kindred being an EP doesn't count?
Boys & Girls because why the hell not. It's pop perfection
"Call Me Maybe" is probably my favorite pop song of the year. It's just so damn catchy.
I agree. They included Kelis' stunning single, which is nice, but it's nowhere near the brilliance of "Are You That Somebody" And my feeling once I realize there was no My Bloody Valentine http://vnntbitches.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/tumblr_lt6jtgwxnn1qc6xsko1_250.gif
"I Feel Love", no matter what decade, is still the bomb.
Yeah, I find it odd that they include a This Mortal Coil track but not something by Cocteau Twins (Lorelei, for example)
Does Fembot by Robyn count? If not then I'd go with Ayo Technology by 50 Cent
the bridge of that Maps cover is truly WTF. "Oh maps/I need the direction to your heart" LOL
I definitely agree. What a ridiculous hook, my god.
I agree. You take out that awful dubstep wob-wob bridge, and you have a perfect pop tune with glorious hooks.
Oh Madge, how I love your video and hate your song
and he knits so he's forever Mr. Indie of all decades.
BH was the first concert I went go, and I will never ever forget that excitement when they came on stage. And of course, new song is stunning, but I'm waiting for the studio version of "Wild", which was mind-blowing when they performed on the closing tour.
Love your new hairdo, Thom
Thank Grimes for all the abs.
I'll Never Know is such a great pop tune. Love the percussion
I need a gif of the horse-guy flipping his hair. THE BEST <3
I think i found god
