Every so often a debut album comes around that feels so special you feel like you are witnessing the birth of an all time great band. I felt that way about Bloc Party when this album hit. And ever since, I've felt its one of the great disappointments in indie rock that they never came CLOSE to replicating it. So much potential!!
Some of these tracks are straight fire. I find it curious that he didn't put some of these on his "Views From the 6" album, which I assume is a project he's taking much more seriously? If these are "throwaway" tracks from his Views album, I'm extremely excited for what's coming up next.
I love Kanye near obsessively, but I completely agree with you. On most of 808's and tracks like "Runaway" he portrays real emotion very well so the autotune singing is decent. But as "FourFiveSeconds" and seemingly this track show, if the emotional level doesn't hit, it just feels like a mess. I'm sure this track will obviously sound better on good speakers/headphones and I'm glad to know its the opener...But I'm still super concerned that he was so willing to put a terrible track like "FourFiveSeconds" on his album without a second thought.
Man I was so hopeful for The Dodos future after "Visitor". That album is still so fucking great. I really thought we were looking at a new powerhouse. But I've been so disappointed with everything since. Listening to the new one right now. Very much enjoying it so far but I'm not getting my hopes up.
Love love love the new SK. It's just all so effortless for them. I've been listening to The Decemberists album the past few days... its not bad, but does anyone else feel that they were a great "for their time period" band? Like "Picaresque" and "The Crane Wife" were great in the mid 2000's because it just sounded perfect at the time. But in 2015, I find it hard to even finish the new album in one sitting, or go back and revisit the old ones (and I fucking LOVED those records). The new album isn't terrible, just now their act feels so dated.
U2 was a big rumored headliner basically all of last year. I'm curious if Bono's crazy injury led them to cancel and they got replaced by random as fuck AC/DC?
I'm moving out of the country in a couple months so this is the first Coachella I'm missing in 9 years. And I'm honestly totally ok with that. The undercard is amazing as usual, but sadly Coachella sells out anyways, so they no longer need to spend top dollar for top headline talent. Although they realistically could get The Stones, they don't NEED to.

I'm with you blochead. "The Meadowlands" changed my life. Its such a perfect album for really any mood I'm in. It still elicits so much emotion from me after all these years. Now they just need to reissue it. I NEED this on vinyl. The copies on sale that I've found cost an absurd amount of money.
I LOVE that Blondes EP. Such an under appreciated release!
I loved "Before Today" but I didn't really care much for "Mature Themes" so I wasn't expecting much. But WOW. This is an incredible album. Shockingly good. Yes, it's long, but there is very little filler here. The early singles sound MUCH better in the context of the entire album as well. Plus, living in LA my whole life, this album takes on a much more personal connotation to it. AOTY contender for me.
Sounds more like the stuff from "The Eraser" which is the best news I could've hoped for. Dare I say, I loved "The Eraser" more than some Radiohead albums. Thom seems to get more personal with his solo work.
This. Is. Everything. KING RICHARD. I just about lost my shit when that vocal sample comes in at the 3:20 minute mark.
Also - I honestly still don't get their obsession with Grimes. Sorry guys... Top 15 album and #1 track? I think she's a super cool girl and her music is absolutely solid. But I just feel their obsession with her is over the top. I'm thrilled I finally get to see her at FYF tomorrow night to see what the hype is about. I hope I fall for her like so many of you have
I was also very surprised to see Bon Iver not even crack the Top 25, despite getting a 9.5 and was basically all they talked about all year. I def preferred Kaputt too, listening to "Bay of Pigs" still gives me chills. Such a monumental album. I was actually thrilled to see Halcyon Digest so high up. Next to MBDTF, its by far my favorite album of the decade. I actually give the vinyl as Christmas presents to friends every year. My biggest surprise was Girls - "Father, Son, Holy Ghost" at #71. I still love that album so much. It got a 9.3 too which makes it more surprising. I enjoy Waka and Future, but how can those two crack the Top 50 and not Girls? Also - no Fleet Foxes AT ALL. Did they just forget about them?
