All apologies, but this is meh. And I think people who are "raving" about this -- something, by the way, I find ironic, considering how subtle-a-stroke the song is -- are just riding of the fumes of the xx's last album.
Oh, and the lyrics are weak; I've heard better from Taylor Swift, if I may be so blunt.
Hate to sound redundant here, but this really is a great album. This sentiment by the way is coming from a person who until quite recently -- until I first heard the amazing "Anything We Want" -- wasn't a fan (or at least wasn't a big fan) of Ms. Apple. I felt *readies self for the pain of a thumbs down* that her music (mostly the instrumentals) was too ostentatious and showy -- at least for my tastes. It would have to follow, then, that given the stripped down and raw nature of this album that I would find it completely agreeable, and I most certainly do.
Also,on a related note, the video for Every Single Night is absolutely amazing. I can't for the life of me get enough of that one lyric: " I just want to feel everything." It's so beautifully sung. And is it just me or does anyone think of the film Amelie when watching it? Probably just me. If she doesn't land atop a Best Album list, she most certainly should make it atop a Best Music Video list.
That sounded....good. Why I feel so taken aback by that fact, I'm not sure. But in any event, I will definitely be on the look out for Letur-Lefr. I haven't seen it or the album that follows it on any "most anticipated albums" lists.
Do I dare say, though, based on a minute long instrumental, that both the EP and the LP should belong on those aforementioned lists? I do, and they should. Keep it up Frusciante!
Yeah I'm a nor'easterner too by way of Philly. They play in Tennessee for Bonnaroo and tickets are amazingly still on sale, so looks like I'm going to have to drive on over there -- close enough.
