I personally always liked the Black Monolith 3-track demo better than anything Deafheaven ever did. As far as a blackened take on hardcore, it was almost up there with Catharsis. Psyched to hear this.
WOW. Absolutely abysmal.
Wow. Far more fun than I had anticipated
I bought my first The Smiths album because I loved the theme song to Charmed. I think that's a mark in its favor! lol.
You know, you could re-order those seven albums in almost any order and I could live with it. The man has an ear for quality, and really understands how to sculpt an album. As for The Cold Vein, I really put it so low because it seemed like 'the least El-P album' of the bunch. Mordul and Vast just overpower his personality on it.
Love it. Calvi's a real talent. It's a shame the US media hasn't picked her up more.
Some of this looks like colonoscopy footage (no, seriously).
New Eminem is, quite simply, the best guest-slot rapper in the world, and "Forever" is the proof of that.
...Guilty Conscience IS on there.
Consider it an unofficial #11.
Oh man, I went back and forth on that one so. many. times.
Let England Shake over To Bring You My Love? Stories From The City? Fucking RID OF ME? RID. OF. ME!?!!?!?!?! GET RID OF THIS GARBAGE LIST.
Gotta tell you, I'd put Pop at #1 with a bullet. The rest of this list is spot-on.
No disrespect taken! Your list and mine aren't actually ALL that different. I think the expansive, bind-blowing experience most people got from The Fragile was something I only got from Year Zero.
I still spin that disc regularly.
Wow! I never knew that. Somehow that makes it so much cooler to me.
I LOVE that album. A real revelation.
Fuck yeah, Doug! Again, your soft spot for Remission is odd to me, but #1 and #2 are spot fucking on. My 'other' Remission cut could be..... WORKHORSE!!!! That little guitar noodle thing drives me fucking nuts, it's the single meanest moment in their whole catalog, and they never play it live! buncha fools. Props on you for banging Hearts Alive. As much as I love The Czar, though, I'm definitely in the Last Baron camp. That song's so ambitious and goes so many places, I nearly like it as much as Hearts Alive.
The Great Southern Darkness was one of my favorite metal records of 2011. I'm excited to hear more from these guys. Regarding the title: judging by their MDF appearance and the "They Call Me Black Devil" video, they don't take themselves very seriously. I'm sure they're aware of exactly how ridiculous their sound is.
Pop is U2's best album. There, I said it.
So we get Amy Winehouse but not Reign in Blood!?!?! At least Illmatic and Enter the 36 Chambers made it...
Dust Bowl Dance is the ONLY M&S song I like.
Wow, a russian novel of a work, and hard to think of a band more deserving! This is excellent work, man. I never thought of the blaze arc and the FOAD arc as two sort of mirrored trilogies, but that makes a lot of sense. I wonder--will Fenriz read this?
Oh man. Maybe its my inner Tool fanboy, but my favorite song off this one will always be Know Your Enemy. I wish modern rock was still this catchy and this angry, and had rhythm sections this tight.
This is a pretty good list, but really? Discounting Playing The Angel is really sad, It's almost as good as Violator and Black Celebration. And no Question of Time?
Hazards of Love was in contention with Southern Rock Opera when I was writing this, up until nearly the last minute. In the end, SRO had a more intriguing storyline. You could consider Hazards an Unofficial #11.
Another killer find. This is great, thanks! That skank beat at around 4:20 in "A Plague to End All Plagues" sold it.
I love Decibel, but usually find their lists to be VERY hit-and-miss with me. This is no exception. Love the Deftones, Watain, Atheist, Darkthrone, Decrepit Birth. Wish Kvelertak was higher, but it's not for everyone. My issues: Torche? Burzum? Fear Factory? Those records were yawn-inducing. and NAILS!?! After having seen their fucking abysmal live show i refuse to listen to the record, but i cannot believe those clowns are getting this much love. Should be here: Arsis, Shining.
