The multiple reviews you read probably discussed how the film avoided the tropes you mentioned, but as you pointed out earlier that wouldn't really change your sophisticated opinion so whats the point?

Leave it to people like me to sit around and gush on how natural Lady Gaga acted and how beautifully she sang, but i feel like too many of these top critics just died on that hill while writing their review and i was just like "Surely there is more to this film than just how cool it is that Lady Gaga can sing and Bradley can direct." Turns out their was!
Watching this move was a totally bizarre experience for me. If you told me a year ago this movie would be in the position it is right now i would have laughed. When I heard Gaga was doing this i was just like no please don't bb. I saw her in AHS Hotel and she wasn't horrible but it definitely didn't look like acting was the best fit for her. But man! Did she do it here! Both her and Bradley were absolutely fantastic. The entire movie I was just had the biggest smile on my face because what i was watching was so great i was just so happy they did not even remotely fuck it up. I mean, even in those final five minutes of the movie, I was still kinda halfway smiling because my girl just fucking NAILED this thing (the last five seconds though i was a total mess tbh). Im just so happy I never traded in my Gaga Stan Card® these last few years (but why the fuck would i have?). To be completely honest, if the first 45 mins were an A, and the last 45 also, those middle 45 lost me A LITTLE and i might give them a B. The industry stuff seemed a little too on the nose at times and i have the same gripe Chris does with Gaga's more pop-centric stuff from the movie. Are we supposed to like this? Or is it supposed to be shit? Because Im feeling a little of both at the moment haha. I'm just glad I've officially entered into the "After A Star is Born" portion of my life because i think Im going to be all the better for it.
