Oh man I almost forgot Tom Breihan defended Mumford and Sons. Dude also likes Taylor Swift. Dude is also somewhat on the fence about Kendrick's album because there isn't enough "rap" on it. Dude also doesn't like St. Vincent because he doesn't listen to "art rock". Why does dude have a job? I swear he's either a performance artist or always stoned.
Fair enough.
I had a small but nagging regret about my initial comment. You found words for why I had that regret.
Still though, if I were in her shoes and I wrote a book offered my unique perspective on culturally significant events, and music journalism who claim to care about these culturally significant events chose to focus on my marriage to Thurston Moore, I would be a little heartbroken.
I know that it's a common logical fallacy to make an argument out of hypothetical situations, but I think that we'd be talking about Thurston Moore's cool and significant life if he published a memoir. We wouldn't talk about it as if it's value lies in brief snippets of gossip. I could be wrong, but I find coverage of Kim Gordon's book a little bit sexist.
This article is a lot of words about a story that is essentially TMZ territory; it just happens to be about Sonic Youth and not Justin Bieber. I haven't read her book yet, but I have a feeling she covers many subjects that are more interesting than her relationship with Thurston.
I don't think this site abides by these concrete definitions of "best" and "greatest" you've come up with. I've seen lists with albums at the top because of how influential they are, and I've seen lists with influential albums getting the shaft. You seem to have cracked some kind of code so I'm interested.
I think putting an end to a meme before thousands more people beat the fuck out of a dead horse is the exact opposite of ruining said meme. He's doing us all a favor.
Seriously. Fuck everyone who doesn't realize that this site has become TMZ/buzzfeed/UpWorthy
I used to feel bad about leaving shitty comments on this site, because I know there are at least one or two people on the staff who think music journalism might actually matter.
I feel less and less bad as time goes on. This site is progressively getting worse, and fuck you if you don't realize that.
