Springsteen is my favourite artist, and I love BTR. But I think Bruce's perspective matured as an artist after he faced all the pitfalls of fame and the fallout with management. Those first three albums can be too romanticised for me at times. Darkness is where he truly found his voice, telling the stories of working class people and others fighting against unfortunate cirumstances. For those reasons I see Darkness as part of the holy trinity, with Nebraska (perhaps his most artiscally accomplished work) and BITUSA. Born in the USA wins out though, because it's my introduction to him, rocking out to his tunes when I was four or five.
