I upvoted this because it is a truly magical musical moment, but what you are hearing is not a harpsichord. It is actually a piano solo that he sped up to match the tempo of the song.
Tell me more about this "dinosaur podcast". Dinosaurs are dope.
I hate that everyone writes about this album by spending half of the word count on the whole "blog rock" phase. In reality, the fall of CYHSY is two parted. 1. Their first record is really good, and needs no excuses made for how good it is. It is pretty much filler free, and half of the songs are about as good as indie rock gets. 2. None of their follow up records were as good, nor did they have anything resembling a successful single to keep them afloat. That is really all it comes down to. Vampire Weekend had a similar rise, but has maintained an audience because both Contra and Modern Vampires are good records.
We posted about the same thing at the same time. That bass line is next level.
Death Cab has made records with better songs, but I love the way Plans sounds more than any of the others. The production on this thing is really top notch and I notice little things whenever I return to it. Also, since it wasn't called out in the article proper, I have to mention that the rhythm section on "Summer Skin" is immaculate.
You Won't Know makes me want to fight a dinosaur with a knife.
I think this is overall a pretty good and well considered list. I would have tried to find a way to put At the Bottom, Millstone, or You Won't Know in there. Limousine is a great song. No problem with it being #1.

I pretty much agree with your assessment of Bloc Party. I don't know if the band will get the while "cultural revision" that it deserves. However, there is a lot more there than a killer debut and then failure. While not nearly as cohesive, A Weekend In the City, Intimacy, and Four all have really great songs. A Weekend in the City gets really close, but it is a very heavy, very dark record when compared to Silent Alarm.
Adore is my second favorite SP album, after Siamese Dream. I think it is criminally underrated. The synthesis of electronic and acoustic sounds that Billy achieved with that one is absolutely unique. There are a few clunky songs along the way, but when it works, it is lovely. Slowly, the critical evaluation of that record is changing. It never really got its fair shot. "It's different, so it sucks".
Transference is a great record. It is great to see the fans of that album start to come out of the woodwork a bit. I think it is easily on par with everything else they have done. People just got bored with their excellence. And yes, "Out Go the Lights" is a top tier Spoon song. A true heavy hitter in a field of heavy hitters.
I just listened to it. I wasn't so sure I would be into the brief length, but it is pretty fitting. Those basslines are so catchy, but subdued at the same time. Thanks for introducing me to this.
I love this record, even though it is still in the bottom half of MM records for me. I agree, it is inconsistent, but when this record is on, it is ON. "Ocean Breathes Salty" might be my favorite MM song. "Bury Me With It" sounds absolutely primal, ten years later.
I would argue that Powerslave is the best, but I really have no major qualms with this. The top 6 is pretty much dead on. I might move Brave New World up a little more, but from top to bottom this is pretty solid. Good work.
"You've Got to Hide Your Love Away"
As a fan of all things Damon, I am pretty excited about this album. I am really digging the instrumentation on this one.
At least he is honest. If MCHG was on top, we would all be killing him for being a liar. Most other artists say crap like "I haven't made my best one yet" or "the new one is the best we've ever done". That being said, maybe artists do feel that way about all of their stuff initially and need time and distance to be able to see their work for what it really is.
The song is awesome, and "Remurdered" is, frankly, a great name for a song. Any genre.
