Am I the only one who thinks R. Kelly's golden age is NOT Ignition Remix's era, but actually right now? Just needs to spend more time on his albums...
Ughhhhh, I'm still waiting for the documentary on how someone went from being in consideration for the greatest rapper of all time to a complete piece of shit. OH SHITT though CALL OF DUTTYY OMGG. How many 14-year-olds (and mentally 14-year-old twenty-somethings) are gonna lose their shit over the maximum brotato combination that is middle aged Eminem rapping for a Call of Duty promotion . This is how i know there is no god.
Was this recorded with someones phone? After passing through 2 dixie cups and a string? Underwater?
Doesn't seem as polished or solid as Live Love A$AP, but has definitely got some new tracks worth checking out. If it were simply labeled a mixtape I'm sure it would seem more like a treat, particularly the first half of the album (as a whole might be on par with Live Love A$AP but with bigger hits, bigger misses.) Still leagues ahead of the Lords Never Worry disaster. Seriously though I'm dissapointed, I was hoping there'd be a comment party. Nobody else cared about this?
Anyone else listening to this?? Fergivicious is tightttttt. Sucker for the opener as well. Can't wait to crank this all night.
Gotta say Within and Without is one of my fave albums of all time (top 3 at least,) i never thought the music was just "headphone music" as some people may suggest. With Allen producing on both these lps its just as rewarding a listen intimitally as it is ambiently. I also think Paracosm is much more accessible than W&W. Awesome summer soaked music all around. Just remember to be patient with this guy. I remember Diplo saying something like "Washed Out could use some starch." I think a lot of people (including Diplo) can learn from his patience in how he builds his songs. Glad to see its possible for someone waste deep in chillwave break the mold while still carrying the torch.
He's got his block behind him like he's pullin' out the driveway. I feel like most people back out of their driveway.
I don't want to be that guy -but nice try Hannah - still can't hold a candle to the vocal range and power of the original. Still like seeing artists show love towards one of the greatest songs of the past 25 years (Still can't believe how old it is.)
This is excellent, love seeing artists compliment each other like this. Megan James, if you're reading this (which obviously you are) we need more of your vocal work on songs! I wan't more covers in the vein of that Soulja Boy one you did earlier this year.
Its dissent from the Nerd Rap movement. Music - like any other art medium - isn't confined to a singular template of whats good and whats bad. Smart lyricism isn't inherently better than "ignorant rap". Lupe Fiasco-esque raps of intellect just aren't progressive right now. The Will Ferrell sample on Niggas in Paris sums it up perfectly, lyrics don't necessarily need to make sense or fall in line with any particular view of what you think is a good line, it just has to sound cool. As long as it "gets the people going." For the record, I think the beat provides more than enough substance. That skittering high-hat is what takes the song to another level. Particularly in contrast to the otherwise modern, washed out synths used on the hook.
That Sampha production and vocal work on The Motion was refreshing to me in terms of today's hip-pop scene. Regarding 2 Chainz verse (which imo is top notch,) you have to realize 2 Chainz is coming out of a notorious anti-lyricism camp. In the same vein of Flacka or Juicy J, hes become a rap icon not because his writing is good (nobody is debating that its terrible) but because of the vibe he brings. 2 Chainz is the physical incarnation of the swag over substance movement, so despite you calling his lyrics childish, I've got to say you're really missing the boat on that one.
The sound quality recorded on the phone will be so painfully bad I seriously don't understand why anyone would want to watch that. I don't even watch my favorite artists captured on video when they play an unreleased song because the quality is weak enough to ruin it. I never really considered putting a ban on them at shows, but I do feel like society looks dumber every time I look up from the crowd to watch a musician over a sea of hands holding cellphones by people who decided they needed to record the whole freaking thing. Not to mention its obviously blocking people behind you.
Agree to disagree, Echoes of Silence had some excellent production work by Illangelo and Clams Casino. The one-two punch of XO/The Host and Initiation were better back-to-back songs than anything on House of Balloons (in my opinion.) Im pretty into this song. But the video though is completely uninspired and pointless. Lil B music videos justify their existence more than this one...
Congratulations on discovering thesaurus.com...
Sadly i agree, Few people root for JT more than me, I honestly feel like the majority of the stuff hes released this year has been stubbornly outdated and conservative. Particularly when you compare it to the Futuresex/Lovesounds album (which came out 6 years ago...), 20/20 feels conceptually (and especially) aesthetically outdated. I understand the attempt to reach a more "classic" sound but I don't see many chances taken, I don't really see much new. 20/20 could have come out 10 years ago, don't you want to be a part of and/or change the modern music landscape? Much of this has to do with my opinion that Timberland - despite his stellar legacy - is just getting a bit long in the tooth and doesn't have anything new to offer. JT and Jay's decision to have him produce basically all their shit this year suggests to me that either A) they were doing some favors for an old friend or B) they simply aren't aware of the breadth of current, talented producers who might be able to give them a different sound. JT fans waited 6 years for this double album, I know most of the fans wouldn't be fully aware of the difference, but to make the same ho hum songs with Timberland and Jerome "J-Roc" Harmon (seriously fuck THAT guy) is just lazy and lame. Just think about all the fun producers it be nice to see JT working with these days...
Curious as to why Lana seems to have been running Stereogum since she appeared (or... changed her name). I don't know if people enjoy it because they like her or just want to mock her behavior... Do people feel like she epitomizes the indie milieu (if there really even is such thing) or is the general opinion that shes a giant contrivance who makes calculated moves to exploit a popular scene? Input? Regardless I don't seem to understand why she gets this attention, not just on this website but in general.
Okay jeremiah (not entirely sure you're not just CD89 again) you need to calm down. First of all, pop music deserves to be taken seriously at least some level, and can at times be original. Thats cool that you're still in your "I'm just learning about music and pop music sux!" phase, but you will some day realize it plays in important role in cultural trends, and is in fact a genre no better or worse than any other. A big problem here is your perception of Madonna is obviously so post Ray of Light that its kind of pathetic. There's a reason why Madonna is the highest selling female artist of all time, To deny her of how she pioneered transgressive pop music in the 1980's is as boneheaded as believing that anything Lady Gaga has done since has surpassed something like Like a Prayer or Express yourself (Which she DID in fact write.)
To: cd89 Please google what paragraph formatting is before subjecting everyone to your poorly constructed, emotionally driven argument. And for the record: we can see that u mad, but you need to calm down. There's barely a logical point in your argument, so from the perspective of someone who has been of little opinion of Lady Gaga for the past few years, you're really just tossing free points to Davids camp. When did Lady Gaga fanatics start coming to this website anyways?
