YES. the vinyl listen does NOT resolve and it remains difficult to this day.
over time, machina I+II and the EPs have proven to be the most challenging and (as Ian ultimately reports) rewarding batch of songs from this band. once you get a feel for the sonics (especially the 128kbps sounds _in the year 2000_), there's so much to explore. for those looking to take a ride on what this thing could have been, here's an excellent reconstruction of the proposed double-concept album. https://albumsthatneverwere.blogspot.com/2014/05/the-smashing-pumpkins-glass-and.html
more cohesive and listenable than Art Angels, to my ears, but never landed in some places for me. i think this new one a more logical followup to Oblivion, insofar as the sonics go, and for AA stans that's going to feel like a retread or moving backward.
sure, it's an unexpected move... but is it really "nuts?"
you'll note the lack of Seattle bands for similar reasons :/
yes! big labyrinth vibe here, especially when those hands come in.
no body shaming please, but very much yes to no pussy-eating shame.
absolutely. Veckatimest never fully gelled for me, and i think this duality was reason.
my Girlpool trajectory has been exactly the same. Powerplant really grabbed me, but i hit stop on this new one two verses into the Elliott Smith derivation. shrug.
no bonus love for Jarvis? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0rAlKzpiPY
