Tidal: ruining everything since 2015.
Love me some Graduation, I will forever go to bat for that album. It caps off the trilogy in the perfect way, ditching the skits and most of the filler from the first two installments, and gave us a taste for the insane, maxed-out opulence that was to come. It also just had some straight bangers that I still put on all the time. Probably my #3 Kanye album behind MBDTF and Late Registration, but it might be #2 on those rare days when Late Registration feels too bloated.
I don't know if this is just me, but I'd say "Killing Lies" is one of the better songs on this record. Saw them play it live a few years back and it was great/a total surprise. I can live without "On the Other Side," "Vision of Division," "Fear of Sleep" and "Evening Sun."
Some days it's Low, some days it's "Heroes", but when I'm truly honest with myself, it's Ziggy Stardust.
Filler tracks? Where?
A Weekend in the City is a lot better than i think people tend to remember. They went for some epic shit and some of it doesn't work, some of it is super corny, but some of it fucking rules. "Waiting for the 7.18", "Kreuzberg," the second half of "Uniform." They went for it, that's for sure. It's been a sad, slow downhill journey from "Flux," though. You hit the nail on the head.
One of my favorite albums of all time and definitely one of the best debuts I've ever come across, from any era. I saw these guys when they came through New Jersey around 2006 and they fucking blew me away. It's heartening to see so many people on here talk about how special this record is to them for its ability to conjure up specific memories and moments in time. That's absolutely what it does for me every time I put it on, which is still pretty often. They've for sure declined in recent years, but fuck does Silent Alarm hold up well.
It's always been Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Any of the other's might be my favorite on a given day, but Sgt. Pepper's is the one.
So far it's gotta be "Money Power Glory".
Not nearly enough Oh You're So Silent Jens on this list. "Pocket Full of Money" should be in any Jens top 10 for sure. Also Maple Leaves? Farewell Song to Rocky Dennis? Julie? A Sweet Summers Night on Hammer Hill? All are right up there for me.
This list has way too much Four on it for my taste. I hate to say it, becauseI love Bloc Party and have since the beginning, but that record is just a mess. The only song from it that belongs in any top ten list is "V.A.L.I.S." From Intimacy I would only take "Signs," so well done there, but also maybe "Ion Square." That song is just a fantastic closer. I guess A Weekend in the City is just going to stay underrated forever. That record is much better than people give it credit for, and songs like "Waiting for the 7:18," "The Prayer", "Flux", "On" and "Kreuzberg" for sure need to be involved in ay discussion of Bloc Party's best. I'm sure it's hard to make this list without including most of Silent Alarm, but leaving off "This Modern Love" and "So Here We Are" is pretty criminal. I also think "Little Thoughts" deserves a nod. And how about "Always New Depths"? It was just a b-side, but has always been one of my absolute favorites. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlPWqmRyOeY
