Fads, phases, trends, and rages. Guitars aren't going anywhere. And certainly a 15-minute fame band like Icona Pop is not going to change anything. C'mon.
Unfortunately you missed the best Bonnaroo moment of, potentially, all time - the small stage (Solar Stage) show featuring a Supergroup of Soul Khan, Black Violin, Jeni Suk, and Knower. This was an incredible, once-in-a-fucking-lifetime show.
For as many perfect songs as Destroyer has put forth, his best might actually be the Pitchfork (and 2011-12 touring) version of Libby's First Sunrise. Absolutely crushing.
I agree with both of these responses in terms of popularity differences, bands of old and new being successful and 'rich', etc. BUT, they key difference in these arguments will continue to be the difference in The Times. The 'Bleach' of 2012 would not sell 2M copies, obviously, because the model has changed so drastically since 1989.
