Agreed. To my ears her new stuff sounds like she's trying to capitalize on Rihanna's brand rather than presenting a distinct voice -- which is especially disappointing considering "Julia" was easily one of 2013's best songs.
At first I assumed that the "It might be the worst music anyone has ever made" line was simply hyperbole - then I listened through the first two minutes of "Unbelievable." Jesus Christ.
This is may just be the best Mountain Goats album since The Sunset Tree, and definitely my choice for album of the week. Another strong release in what is shaping up to be an especially great year for music.
I have no love for the Carly Rae track, but "All Day" is rubbish.
I don't think every song should necessarily be judged on the basis of how much it advances music...
Also, daily reminder that Yeezus wasn't very good.
Agreed. Yeah I love me some Kanye, and yeah his performance was heartfelt, but that doesn't change the fact that it was an absolutely cringe-worthy disaster.
Of course "Strangers to Ourselves" would be the title of a Modest Mouse album. March '15 can't come quickly enough.
Yeah...I actually felt insulted after seeing that.
I'll take a shot: 1. The War on Drugs – Lost in the Dream 2. Perfume Genius – Too Bright 3. FKA Twigs – LP1 4. Future Islands – Singles 5. Present Tense – Wild Beasts 6. The Antlers – Familiars 7. Caribou – Our Love 8. Run the Jewels – Run the Jewels 2 9. Angel Olsen – Burn Your Fire for No Witness 10. Movement – Movement [EP]
Rant time. I've been telling my friends all year that Benji wasn't as good as people were making it out to be. Simplistic songs with blunt lyrics that have somehow gotten interpreted as being particularly "genuine," or "relatable," rather than clumsy. There's certainly a handful of tracks that work fairly well, but on the whole, it sounds lazy when compared to his earlier work -- especially the fantastic, sweeping Ghosts of the Great Highway. Anyways, I completely agree with you - the entire album reeks of insincerity for me now, and the fact that this whole "beef" has been leading others to critically reexamine Benji is seriously gratifying for me. Its a mediocre work that doesn't even belong in the AotY conversation. End rant.
Grow up kids? I'm all for trolling if it's in some way entertaining, but Mark is about as clever as the average 13 year old shit-talker on Xbox live.
By that logic, Beethoven should've quit writing before the 9th Symphony, The Beatles post-Help! output is uninteresting, Bob Dylan's later albums don't deserve attention and... well, you can see what I'm getting at. But just to clarify, your comment is, without a doubt, the most unintelligent thing I've read all day. Please reconsider ever commenting again.
I've never been much of a Danny Brown fan, but GOD DAMN -- that track doesn't let up for a second
Personally, I think the song would be vastly improved if the creepy dude whispering "one less problem without ya" into your ear was completely dropped from the mix.
I don't really see how Nico & Vinz is eligible, considering it came out spring 2013.
Future Islands - Seasons (Waiting on You) Duke Dumont - I Got You Ben Khan - Youth The New Pornographers - Brill Bruisers Transgender Dysphoria Blues - Against Me! Ariana Grande - Problem The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Simple and Sure
As much as I love Red Eyes, it kinda came out last year already.
I don't understand why some people here are up in arms about these interviewers throwing sexually loaded questions at her - you guys are aware she devotes entire songs to topics like getting eaten out (see: "Pu$$y"), correct? Given that she's decided to market herself entirely on her sexuality, and seems more comfortable discussing that than her actual music, I see nothing wrong with it. That being said, this was extremely uninteresting.
