Are We There era van Etten is my favorite sonically (listened to that record on a road trip and it was a powerful experience), but Seventeen is her best song by a mile. It's transcendent on every level.
Love this clip with a passion. He's SO into it.
God, Love More - what a song. She's easily one of the greatest songwriters alive right now. Every album of hers has a song with just absolutely perfect lyrics.
IDK y'all, at the very least Bags is a good song
Yeah, the pivot happened at some point (post Teenage Dream...maybe somewhere in and around Prism?), but there was one point where she was not boring, at least in terms of mainstream pop.
YES to this. Her EP from a few years back (When We Are) is rock solid and she's an amazing player.
Right? I prefer to it their debut.
It's just plain human empathy
Phil Cook is the special sauce here. Those keys really drive this song. If you have an inclination towards gospel, his stuff is worth checking out.
Can't confirm quality of album but their previous songs are incredible. Vincent has an amazing voice. Probably the most striking new voice I've heard in the past few years.
I feel like I'm insane but I love 645AR. This may be my usual predisposition towards "weirdness overcompensating skill/pleasantness," but I can't get enough of his weirdo high pitched squeak. I thought it was funny and dumb at first but now I genuinely dig it.
Bridgers did this back at Eaux Claires IV with Julien Baker and Anais Mitchell. It was incredible and it made it one of my favorite songs. It's great to see her revisit it.
Absolutely adore both of these lead singles. Read's vocals are incredible. This is going to be something special, isn't it?
I don't know where exactly Rob Moose is on this thing but that guy has been on an absolute RUN lately.
Justin Vernon deff played a part in that. He was openly worshiping Hornsby during the roll-out of Bon Iver, Bon Iver back in 2011 (even brought it up during a Fallon interview). Dude is also a major Dead Head. Brought Hornsby to play at Eaux Claires II and they've been frequent collaborators ever since.
Her last record, Fine But Dying, is really great. Lots of catchy jams on that one.
I WILL reply with In the Grace of Your Love. I still love the hell out of that record. It's gloriously poppy...but it's just grating enough to make it work. I even think it's better than everything they did before (partially because it was just grating enough...rather than straight up grating). Easily one of the most underrated albums of the decade. THE DECADE!
We need more pop songs with Charlie Wilson on them.
