My nerdy friends and I had a long-running movie night potluck deal, and when it was my turn a couple months ago, I chose "LA Confidential." Hadn't seen it since it first came out. My friend and I spent all day tracking down red light bulbs and making chop suey and coming up with a cocktail list so that we could have an LA-noir theme to match the movie. ANYway, the point is, I was blown away by how fucking good that movie (still) is. The next day I watched it all over again, and went through all the DVD extras. (They're elaborate and fantastic.) Okay, I'm nerding out, but I just had to share.

Yesss, "Young Adult" was awesome and underrated. Except I saw it suuuuper hungover and there was so much boozing in it that it started making me nauseous and I actually had to leave the theater to go puke and come back.

@Biception -- when my brother and i were kids, we rewound and replayed that end part SEVEN THOUSAND TIMES in order to figure out her name. i still don't know. i'm still waiting to find out. it still bothers me.
also, "garden state" and "elizabethtown" are the same movie, can we talk about that?
except "elizabethtown" is like the poor man's version, which i actually think makes it better, cos it's like cameron crowe was all, "dude, if that can make money, so can i!" whereas zach braff was actually having Feelings, which makes it really depressing.
i am disturbed by the high level of natalie portman love happening here. this is THE manicpixiedreamgirl role, guys. second only to this!!!! and it's not okay!!!!

Saw _Blue Valentine_ last night -- or, as I like to call it, _Blue Valentine: Two Actors Acting_. I want to nominate it for WMOAT. I swear I'm not just backlashin cuz it's "critically acclaimed." I mean, it was very film-y and truth-y and I may have misted up a few times, and don't get me wrong, Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling definitely can Act, and in a lot of ways I appreciated it. But I just still kind of hated it. Like, this is what these people wear to get married even though they are supposed to be PWT and not hipsters. It was weird, it was like, the director was like, we'll make them wear ugly clothes that are so ugly that they're hip, but actually so hip that they're unhip, and that will be like, realistic?
