*My first post was in response to the original headline, "Four New Gorillaz Songs Appear on Tidal" with the joke obviously being that I, nor anyone I care ab- personally know, am not subscribed to that service. I played myself by referring to a headline. Headlines change. Now that there is an updated headline that Gorillaz, the project which IMO shows that if Damon Albarn isn't the most talented pop singer/songwriter/composer *still* living, he is the most versatile (at the very least), is coming out with a new album, here is me reading the new headline: https://media.giphy.com/media/nwCNjTGInTiHm/giphy.gif https://media.giphy.com/media/xT1XGRvgQIkazsZWWk/giphy.gif

Yeah, it's crazy hearing Joey Bada$$ channel/bridge Pac and Biggie. I can dig it. I agree that he has a classic in him and eagerly anticipate both All-Amerikkkan Bada$$ and Leon's return to Season 3 of Mr. Robot.
"That’s pretty demoralizing, but for anyone worried the Chainsmokers are about to start outdoing the Beatles’ legacy, take assurance in that no artist has still even come close to topping the Fab Four’s historic feat of holding all five of the top slots on the chart back in 1964." Yeah, well wait until they release their sophomore album, Dominoes, featuring "I was set up to fail," Halsey, Coldplay, Rihanna, Drake, Future, Gucci Mane, Rae Sremmurd, Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, and Chance the Rapper... Then you have my permission to die.
https://33.media.tumblr.com/a7c8e1e76cac7f1fad02290459d7ce01/tumblr_nuubgyZ74Y1qz8x31o1_500.gif The gif above was going to be my Halloween costume last year but I didn't have the Magic 8 Ball(s) to pull it off in my small city. My train of thought was that rather than the esteemed Forrest MacNeil, people were going to think I was a perverted substitute teacher. Our loss!
Forrest has had a tough life and he daily experiences setbacks, but I'm holding out hope. I also hate to see him leave, however, I think that 3 seasons fits perfectly within the nature of the show.
I just finished the second episode, and I'm all in. Agreed on the children being wonderful. With their current trajectories Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Laura Dern could be locks for awards season, but I can't forget how INSANE the Miniseries/Limited Series/TV Movie categories usually are. I'm not sure who has the most influence on the show's tone between David Kelley (probably him as the creator/writer), Liane Moriarty (author), and Jean-Marc Vallée (director) but I think that the balance is masterful. I know of Kelley's work but I'm too young to have both watched and appreciated the bulk of it when it originally aired. I can definitely see similarities, though, between Big Little Lies and Valée's work on Wild and Dallas Buyer's Club (strong character studies/acting, similar editing style and camera work) but BLL is much more focused (I'll give that point to Kelley and Moriarty). So far, I think having like eight hours and multiple characters to shift point of view is doing Vallée wonders, especially changing pace between scenes with heavy, minimal, and no dialogue. I just checked IMDB and found out that Vallée will be doing an HBO Miniseries adaptation of Gillian Flynn's Sharp Objects with Amy Adams (*Laurence Fishburne voice* Somebody, PLEASE, give this woman a goddamn major acting award) that stars filming next week. So, I'm guessing that both parties feel fantastic about their work on Big Little Lies. I want to amend my previous TV list and offer my sincerest apology for forgetting SILICON VALLEY. Too. Fucking. Much. I'll shut up now. One more thing of course... Fuck Donald Trump
I definitely won't have time but my planned queue until The Leftovers will probably consist of Legion, Girls, Big Little Lies, The Americans, REVIEW, Iron Fist, and Planet Earth II. Then, The Leftovers, Better Call Saul, Guerilla, MST3K, Veep, Bill Nye STW, Fargo, The Handmaid's Tale, Dear White People, and American Gods could all lead into TWIN PEAKS!!! If anyone tells you that in the present/future tense there aren't any new good, interesting, and/or entertaining books, music, movies, and/or TV shows, they're lying; there's too fucking much!
I've only watched the pilot so far but I'm excited about the full season. I'm a pretty big fan of HBO Limited/Mini Series (Both The Night Of and The Young Pope were fan-fucking-tastic in my opinion), Laura Dern (can't wait to see her in STARWARSTHELASTJEDI and TWINFUCKINGPEAKS y'all!!!), and Zoë Kravitz (Janelle Monae and Kravitz are the only celebrities I've seen outside of their own events (D'Angelo and TVOTR, respectively, in ATL) and I was STARSTRUCK both times). So from the top, Big Little Lies checks off three boxes. The way I've sold the pilot to friends has been: imagine the dynamic from Mean Girls but with moms and a murder mystery. What hooked me was the humor that I didn't realize would be present based on the promos I watched. While the story appears pretty conventional, I think that the acting (what a cast!), direction, cinematography, and music from the pilot all ranged from great to excellent.

T2 and Alien: Covenant are definitely my most anticipated for Spring. I also hope that I'm not hyping them up too much in my own mind. Along with the majority of your Spring list, mine would include: Song to Song-might be a case of go for Malick but stay for Lubezki Personal Shopper-Olivier Assayas' new film Life-Alien x Gravity x The Martian with Deadpool, his writers, and Gyllenhaal should be ok at the very least despite the director's record, right? Colossal-Nacho Vigalondo's new film Graduation-Cristian Mungiu's new film Free Fire-Ben Wheatley's new film War Machine-David Michôd's new film I think that there might be a few misses in my list above but in my opinion, all of the directors and/or writers have released at least one work (multiple for many of them) that was creative and/or fantastic as fuck.

...Wait a minute, I'm receiving an update from our Culture Overlordes™ : "It's 2017! You're not being mooned; you're being breadcrumbed."
You're not being ghosted, you're being mooned.
Logan, Get Out, John Wick: Chapter 2, I Am Not Your Negro, The Lego Batman Movie. I can't remember a better string of February-March wide releases. The last month outside of escapism could be having an effect on my opinion but I believe I would feel the same way if the same slate appeared any other previous year. Either way, if you haven't had a chance yet: https://media.giphy.com/media/141pqniCFNKyLm/source.gif Fuck Donald Trump
Fantastic week of videos. "Serenading In The Trenches" by Sondre Lerche was my favorite song and video pairing but I can't complain with the cinematic choices and awesome throwback on display here.
On "Green Light" I got Lorde x Antonoff x Swift x Coldplay x Icona Pop. Chris I need you to give me the actual formula because I don't have your beautiful pop mind. https://media.giphy.com/media/5yLgoczEvFoE5LyoiZO/giphy.gif

Straightforward from here: 1. Drop a classic 2. Get nominated for AOTY 3. Lose to Taylor Swift 4. Retire from rap 5. 2032: President Chancelor Bennett

In addition to his opinion on Beyoncé, Carlos Santana shared a few other statements: "With all respect to our brother, Kendrick Lamar...he's not a rapper-rapper, with all respect to him." "With all respect to our sister, Amy Adams...she's not an actress-actress, with all respect to her." "With all respect to our brother, Karl Malone...he's not a forward-forward, with all respect to him." "With all respect to our sister, Rosalind Franklin...she's not a scientist-scientist, with all respect to her." "With all respect to our brother, James Baldwin..he's not a writer-writer, with all respect to him."
"No disrespect, but that thing you've been doing all of your life for which you've recieved countless accolades and nearly universal praise from both the public and critics...yeah, you're not really good at it." Get. The. Fuck. Out.

Favorite record from my dad's vinyl collection. Good luck convincing me that this isn't Album Art Of The Life: https://bossip.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/gd7587368album-prince-1979-by-3770.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Crol8Omzgd8/Sa_iixFZmbI/AAAAAAAACWA/DyXd-FTATOY/s400/princeback.jpg
I had no idea all this time that Afrobeats was the name being used for the most recent strain of dominant Afropop. I'm a huge Afrobeat fanatic, so I thought at first Tom was saying that Jidenna's music above was Afrobeat influenced and I was very confused because I didn't hear any Fela Kuti or Tony Allen. It would appear that Afrobeats is to Nigeria as Hiplife is to Ghana and I would guess there are nuances besides just being regional that I haven't picked up on yet. Either way, even though I'm not big on Jidenna's Afrobeats outings, at least he's not embarrassing himself like Drake. I love "Long Live the Chief," though, so I'm looking forward to hearing him rap more. I do agree that the Wondaland artists seem to be in a weird limbo but I think that because they have other outlets besides music like activism, movies, and television, there might be profile-building reasons behind music delays. They might be helping to plot a takeover, though. My dream is that the Falcons losing, Migos getting cancelled, Baby Dick Spicer making up terrorist attacks, President Bannon, Agent Orange and the FUCKBOIS running rampant makes Atlanta really rise up and we (the people) get an Outkast album to aid resistance and persistence. A man can dream...
I could see the thinking behind inventing Best Urban Contemporary Album as a parallel to the reasoning behind differentiating between Best Rock Album and Best Alternative Album: recognize/reward more forward-thinking artists in a "genre." But let's be real...IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS BABY!!! There is obviously a disconnect that you could argue is generational. Maybe the BUCA category was genuinely (misguidedly) created in an effort to create a more inclusive awards ceremony but the optics don't look good when you start analyzing AOTY trends like a.j. and dansolo have already done and shared in previous threads. It does start to feel like the NARAS is willing to give out breadcrumbs to keep certain demographics locked-in and keep the money rolling off the appearances and performances by the very artists that perennially appear to have no shot at their biggest honor. It's cool, though, in five years (who am I kidding? probably two) Taylor Swift's Light Lemonade will dazzle and delight and be a shoo-in for AOTY . I do want to allude to my previous post and point out the fact that the inaugural year for the Best Urban Contemporary Album award was 2013...the same year that "Accidental Racist" graced our ears. Furthermore, there are 3 L's in LL Cool J and 11 letters in Brad Paisley. WAKE THE FUCK UP PEOPLE
For me, it's just the flag bearers of the genre and no one else. http://a.abcnews.com/images/GMA/abc_gma_faris_130409_wg.jpg
Speaking of death...I loved the sounds that I heard emanating from the SG Serial Killer Van, so I climbed aboard and brought along some members from my Collegiate Cereal Club: a paper chaser, mask makers, Canadian cloaks, English blokes, French folks, Hippie jokes, a calm collective, a fat family, white Walkers, and Blochead's friend, the biggest bother and a most fiendish "Father."
A part of me wants Trump to reach the nadir from which his reputation and that of the Republican Party can't recover (probably impossible with fans like these!), but I also want us to survive. I've read about Bill Clinton's indiscriminate and brutal attack on Iraq the eve of his impeachment vote, and I shudder to think about how Dumbass Donald Dick would react (retaliate) in a similar situation. However, it would be an understatement for me to say that I'm depressed that the only stopgap between a future physical confrontation between the US and Russia appears to be Dumbass Donald Dick. Maybe it's hyperbolic thinking, but to me, it's like how do you want your eggs cooked: Trump (US war with Iran and/or China) or Pence (US war with Iran and/or Russia (with not only bipartisan support but probably also the consent of a brainwashed citizenry))? To end on an optimistic note, I proudly participated in Columbia (SC)'s sister march to the Women's March on Washington. While it wasn't as much of a march as a "Rally and Strategy Summit" (combination of weather and organizations wanting to capitalize on having like-minded people together) it definitely inspired me (and I'm sure many others) to better direct my anger into action. I hope that everyone else who participated across the world had a similar beautiful experience, and I hope that the People's Climate Mobilization on April 29th is able to generate an even better turnout/outcome. Shut Up, Dude: Rise up Migos, Falcons, John Lewis, all of ATL, Women, Immigrants, LGBTQIA, Minorities, and Allies! Thanks for letting me vent. Also, thanks Missy and Jamiroquai; I'm off to dance myself clean. Fuck Donald Trump.
