So do the Butlers lack self-awareness to such a degree that they can't even fathom how their post-Suburbs output/antics have alienated much of their formerly loyal fanbase or do they simply not care? And this is coming from someone who liked and still really likes Reflektor, but even that whole roll out-disco-mirrors thing was contrived and unnecessary. It's like they're desperate to be a whole big art thing instead of just focusing on making good music and I just can't comprehend how they got here. It's not like AF ever made it to, like, a U2 or Coldplay level of cultural significance, but I believe they think those bands are their contemporaries.
Honestly, good for him. If we can't support and applaud people for taking steps to learn and be better (be best?) then what are we even doing?
On the flip side, lol at his fans (fan), many of whom continue to be stupid and ridiculous. The spelling mistake is so predictable, as is the ridiculousness of fundraising for a guy who's probably now a millionaire, while these simps probably live paycheck to paycheck. Get a hobby, nerds.
P.S. I can't believe I still haven't figured out to to connect this MOTHERFUCKING GRAVATAR. Hey SG, can I transfer the email connected to my commenting account to a new email?
These are hardcore problems for commenting on hardcore albums.
My first thought was, "wow, these guys really admire Andrew W.K." My next thought was, "wow, they're really into Deafheaven." So that's where I landed - Andrew W.K. + Deafheaven = The Armed. I'm not not into it.
Listened this morning, and while I found it to be generally enthralling, I also was getting a little miffed that the melodies kept getting absolutely stomped on by the distortion. Could've toned that down a bit I think. Otherwise, good stuff.
I'd love to see that just to witness the one instance in history in which a black man who grew up poor with a history of drug addiction was welcomed into the most exclusive club around and a rich, powerful white man was told to fuck right off.
Totally with you a) because this song fucking rules and 2) because, while people who are very "loud" about their workout/diet habits are super fucking annoying, it's totally anachronistic to be about that life in the indie music world so I can get behind that type of subversion. Not sure what to make about the corporate funding thing, that would be a bummer. Anyways, as someone who's been working out regularly since my early-teens, I've always felt a bit outside of what's considered "normal" in the indie-sphere (and have been told as much on occasion by the super "hip") so I'm into a breaking of the norms here. Hopefully it's not just some bullshit marketing thing though.
I would be inclined to agree with you, but I don't think she's as good at those things as she's given credit for, and I think there are much better artists who don't get the same spotlight (and whose spotlight is overshadowed by TS' constant presence).
