Father, Son, and Holy Ghost was so freaking good and monumental, I cannot believe CO's output has dropped off so drastically since. But I'm glad he's in a good mental place and healthy, as he's indicated recently.
Very very very good. I don't think I've ever been so nervous for an album to be "meh", only to have those doubts completely blown out of the water. She's got a knack for architecting albums that not only have great individual pieces, but as a cumulative whole, make those pieces really shine and stun.
I'd say....out of all these bands I would say Galaxie 500's status has skyrocketed the most compared to their heyday. Not to say they were not a renowned band when they were around, but they're more popular now than they have been in 20 years.
I've been curious as to why Q's album has been delayed. If it was to wait for the big year of rap to die down so he can get his spotlight, I think it's a great move. Just look at Pusha T and Earl, who both released great rap albums but will be overshadowed in end of the year lists by Kanye, Danny Brown, Drake, Chance the Rapper and even Jay.
But while the Man of the Year song was great, that Collard Greens single that he released kinda hit with a thud. It was a forced shot at a mainstream audience, and they didn't bite, and neither did his usual more indie leaning audience. Excited and anxious for how his album turns out.
Answer: Probably the same reason you make asinine, worthless, and critical comments on a music blog. It's just what you guys do; she likes selling records, and you like being an asshole.
Disclosure has to be the frontrunner...that album, and specifically the singles, has been THE sound of 2013. At least the representative sound of British music across the world...I've heard young people in Iceland+Scandinavian nations are obsessed with it.
I have the same relationship with 808s....it always gets its go around every winter for me. I remember listening to it in the car, with the snow faling and everything, the winter it came out. Does everyone view 808s the same? I can't imagine it being a summer record to anyone. Anyways, sonically this is my favorite Kanye album ever.
Ian Curtis' lyrics to Ceremony are different than the New Order ones. New Order took the song but could never fully remember or decipher or find Curtis' lyrics to it so they wrote new ones.
"So I feel like BIG with the super nintendo, Sega genesis. Now we doing deals with the major businesses."
When I heard that in an ASAP song, I thought he meant BIG as in Tom Hanks. Now it makes all the sense in the world.
