I rarely criticize bands for "selling out", but licensing music and making money off your art is one thing. Being a macroeconomic sellout to the IOC is much worse. They live in Montreal; don't they know how shitty the Olympics ends up being for host cities? (Pardon the political diatribe on a music website's comment section.)
St Vincent actually sounded pretty good, considering SNL's notoriously bad sound. These Twitter folk don't deserve nice things. I wonder how they'd react if someone like Joanna Newsom were the musical guest. (And then I wonder what they'd think when they find out she's Andy Samberg's wife.)
I thought they've been covering "Heart of Glass" since 2010—wasn't it the 2nd to last track on The Suburbs?
No disrespect to Will Butler and Owen Pallett (as I'm a big fan of both AF and Owen's solo act), but I find it more dubious now that the Academy refuses to nominate Jonny Greenwood. For There Will Be Blood and The Master the official word was he was disqualified because he used previously recorded music, but isn't much of the score for Her from Reflektor? (Ie, Supersymmetry and Porno.)
I've been saying for years that Thom Yorke should release an album/EP of his live solo-acoustic arrangements. His solo performances of Radiohead and The Eraser songs are always amazing
After they got engaged, Joanna Newsom sang this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Nb3117f8M4 while Andy Samberg sang this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQlIhraqL7o
I agree that they were one of the most influential pop culture magazines ever, but the current state of the magazine is a shadow of its former self. Back in the 60s and 70s they represented the cultural zeitgeist (as if would I know—I was born 10 years after the 70s ended), but now their priority is just trying to hold on to their aging baby-boomer audience. Look at their Top 50 albums of 2012 list and how they basically write the same cover story feature about Bruce Springsteen each time he makes an album.
Album: Grizzly Bear – Shields Song: Dirty Projectors – "Gun Has No Trigger" Video: Grimes – "Oblivion" (for no other reason but nepotism for fellow Montrealers) Crush: Dude: Andrew Bird, Girl: Annie Clark (does she win every year?) Best New Act: Grimes (again out of nepotism. Would Divine Fits count in spite of Dan Boeckner and Britt Daniel being members of big/popular bands?) Best Show: Mad Men

I always thought it would be pretty badass for "The National Anthem" by Radiohead to be someone's intro music (preferably a closer)
Nevermind, I guess...
Damn it, how do you embed images? I seem to have messed it up. http://oi54.tinypic.com/vf8qkx.jpg

I was a little disappointed when I found out this had nothing to do with Queen and David Bowie
