You're a braver man than me to trip to this album. "The Devil is in the Details" would send me over the edge. Hell no.
Poor Tommy Lee, he didn't ask to be a part of this. He's riding high with a show on TV where is penis is prominently featured having an extended onscreen conversation with him, and now he's getting dragged into this.
Shout at the Devil is a better album than anything Pearl Jam has released. Motley Crue gets lumped in with a lot of shitty hair metal bands like Warrant and Poison, but their first two albums are badass metal albums. Shout at the Devil is a classic and is in the same class as Number of the Beast and British Steel.
Sorry, this shit has a lot more in common with Jason Mraz and the like than Justin Vernon. I just gave "The Blower's Daughter" another listen for the first time since this was originally out and it's worse than I remember.
I've been sympathetic to this guy. He hitched his wagon to a musical partner who hemmed and hawed for close to 20 years so I get his frustrations, but nobody forced him to live that life. To sit back and take pot shots at other bands and act like Uncle Rico is pathetic. Like others mentioned, what the fuck has he done since Meadowlands to warrant any bitterness towards anyone? Give me a break.
I'm just an outsider fan anxiously waiting new music from these guys the past 18 years. But when Charles says he's had the songs done for 2 years as well that's frustrating for me. I don't know what's been holding up releasing this stuff and Charles has had medical issues so I know I'm at risk of being insensitive, but I sort of get Kevin throwing his hands in the air and releasing the songs he's put his heart into. This whole thing is sad. I hate it that they couldn't work it out and release new Wrens music. But to me it feels like perhaps Kevin has been trying for years to get the album out already and keeps hitting a brick wall.
It's honestly a miracle there was ever any Wrens album.
They've traded their Dunables for Jazzmasters
Album - Jeff Rosenstock NO DREAM Song - CSHR Can't Cool Me Down Honorable mention Empty County for album and the song "Marian"
I fucking love Two Minutes to Late Night. One of the best things on the internet, especially for an old metal head like me. These internet/quarantine covers are all great but I miss the studio shows. Gwarsenio is a badass, that dude can do anything. Check out the shows with the Thin Lizzy and Maiden covers from a year ago if you're just discovering this.
This is a perfect album. Not that it's the greatest, or best, but in a sense of a full album where every track committed to a certain aesthetic and nailing it. I love this album. I remember getting it around the time it came out and thinking it would be similar to Best Coast, and it was so much weirder than I was expecting. Just a really fun, creative mix of stoner punk with a little Animal Collective thrown in.
In for the Stooges shirt. I don't comment much any more but I come to read every day.
I sell rebar (among other building products) and toured the Nucor mill in Jackson, MS. Was one of the most awesome things I've ever seen to see them drop those giant electrodes into the enormous vat of raw metal and melt it down.
Problem is Max Martin writes hooks. These immaculately produced, cool sounding yawns are still yawns.
Liz Phair was painful last week
Eh, what do I know? I guess it doesn't fit with the narrative that Rostam leaving led to them releasing songs with lyrics like "we go together like pots and pans, surf and sand, bottles and cans."
I'm not turned off by them yet, but this new album is very average. There are some good songs on it but I feel like I put it on out of obligation and not because I particularly want to hear it. I'm baffled by the inevitable #1 on Stereogum's year end list this seems preordained to place.
"We Belong Together" is terrible. Rostam would've shot that shit down fast. "Married in a Gold Rush" is almost as bad.
I LOVE "Strokin'". That song is so much fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7gMkiOPSeA
Great album. The love the way the tempo changes on the chorus to "So Insane."
