Damn right, I commented last year on the complete lack of British rap music even though they're making such brilliant stuff. Some of the best british rap this year:
Dave - We're All Alone in this Together
Lil Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert
Slowthai - Tyron
Tiggs da Author - Blame it on the Youts
Wretch 32 - Little Big Man
Headie One - Too Loyal For My Own Good
Ghetts - Conflict of Interest
I listened to the album and quite liked a few tracks. But I am sorry and I can't help it but I CANNOT take an artist seriously called Pooh.
It's either a cuddly bear who loves honey OR a turd.
Really loved Slowthai when he first appeared and his first album was a belter. Really enjoyed the new James Blake collab too BUT the new Skepta one has me wincing.
As someone on Twitter pointed out, it's kind of sickening for a rapper accused of drunken harassment to come out and basically state 'You can't cancel me, I've won too many awards and I'm too famous'. And I tried to see/think if it's tongue in cheek but it really doesn't seem it from the rest of the song. Also Skepta is known for hanging out with some known abusers like Octavian which makes it extra dodgy.
It's a great tune and makes me all wet-eyed because it takes me back to little kid me watching this film and listening to this song OVER AND OVER again curled up on the sofa eating snacks. It was my favourite film and song for a few years as a little tyke and it makes me miss being little again...
I used to work with the guy who now plays keys in the band (second from left on the picture) and always forget so whenever I click on a Vaccines thing and see him, I always go 'Oh there's that guy I used to work with'. Anyway, he was a nice bloke and a good drink buddy sometimes post shift. He makes solo stuff as T Truman that's worth checking too.
I think you can claim us, the British, for this one. Alexandra Burke won a singing tv talent show back in 2008 and released it at Christmas, getting to Christmas No 1 and putting the connection into the world/public eye.
I actually think she's a decent pop artist with a great voice BUT I blame her for this...
I am sure I remember making this comment last year but did you listen to no British rap this year?!
I do agree with some of these - RTJ, Boldy, Gibbs.
Here are some great British rap albums from this year:
Headie One - Edna
Headie One x Fred - GANG
Riz Ahmed - The Long Goodbye
Nines - Crabs in a Bucket
Unknown T - Rise Above Hate
Knucks - London Class
YES! I was questioning if it was as it's been a long time since I've been. I used to go every few days up until a few years ago when I moved to Brighton. My mate does booking of events for there so it was like a second home. Even had part of my stag do there and did some 'drug' hangs in the basement...
And of course, I always saw it in the dark, drunk, and staring at some sweaty band instead!
I went there once for an 18th birthday and got too drunk in the middle of the day. I also met up with a girl I fell in love with and got to snog before drifting apart and now she's semi-famous (here in the UK anyway). Good times.
I literally watched this for the first time ever last week after buying the blu-ray of the film. I then googled about this little interview after to see if people had kicked up a fuss about it but found relatively little - then lo and behold! A straightforward and genuine response I think here and that's awesome though.
I have my own Christmas podcast and I can't wait to talk about this for an hour on it (although it's mainly about British christmas stuff but COME ON IT'S DOLLY!)
How has the best Bonus Beat not yet been shared here? Randy dealing with each break-up on My Name Is Earl with the help of Time After Time?

I've met her a couple of times and she is definitely not. My best bud works with Dirty Hit in some ways and I've met her at gigs and festivals. She's just a young super-excitable artist who seems to genuinely love music (she was bopping about like crazy for another band at the festival I met her at). The one thing meeting her (& her band/friends) made me realise was the 90s nostalgia with the way they dressed and the music they spoke about. Made me feel quite old as a man only just in his 30s...
