The Morning Benders and Owen Pallett are the clear winners here. My version of Is This It didn't include New York City Cops because of 9/11 or something, so I feel just fine about lopping it off here, too. What a train wreck that was.
I stand by my original assessment of Iceage. If someone tells you to listen to them, just punch them in the face. Seriously, though, I don't get it. Tune-Yards gets left off the list completely, and Iceage is number 3? Oh, Stereogum.
Isn't bashing the Foo Fighters kind of like bashing AC/DC at this point. If you don't like one of their songs, you probably won't like any of them.
I don't want to be one of those guys who gets stuck in the past with a band, but I really haven't enjoyed anything these guys have done since The Crane Wife. This is no exception. I really want to like it, but it's just boring to me. I've already heard this music.
I mean, Gwyneth is Gwyneth (i.e. the worst), so it's not like something like this was unexpected. But Cee-Lo? You should know better. Say it ain't so, Cee-Lo.
I had never heard of Ariel Pink until everyone went bananas over Before Today. I don't necessarily like the album that much, but for some reason I can't stop listening to it? I might need help. And I do agree with Pitchfork that Round and Round is a killer song. I don't know if I'd put it at number one, but I definitely listened to it A LOT when it first came out.
I was glad to see Girls "Broken Dreams Club" EP on here. One of the best releases this year, despite it only being an EP. "Carolina" is a breathtaking song.
Double meta hands!
Get caught listening to your iPod in class? You get Urkel Dance'd: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTeOcVelYi0
It can also turn your pooh black. So, you know, after having an upset stomach, you look down and notice that your pooh is black. Then you go to the ER because you're pretty sure you're bleeding internally. Then you're shown the label on the Pepto Bismol bottle by the ER nurse that says it may turn your pooh black, and are sent home in disgrace.
Beach House is my #1. The rest I don't care to place in any kind of order, because ranking anything beyond your favorite seems kind of arbitrary.
Age of Adz didn't get the critical love it deserved, IMO. Then again, I haven't listened to it in a couple of weeks and it hasn't been out that long, so what does that say?
YES. I seriously considered suicide, then I remembered I had legs and could walk out, and then I thought about some other things, and then Matt Damon, and then the movie was over. None of the three main story lines ever came together in a very meaningful way. I kept waiting for something to happen and nothing. ever. did. It was painstaking. You can't start a movie off with a goddamn tsunami and near death experience and then have the rest of it meander and mill about like an alzheimer's patient. What the hell kind of let down is that? Fuck this movie.
I don't really think of this movie in terms of being good or bad. I do know that it absolutely wrecked me. I cried for about 3 hours after it was over. It hit some kind of primal nerve or something. For that reason alone I recommend it to people. Also interested to hear what Gabe would have to say about it.
I thought the name of the album was "Sufjan Stevens Invites You to Come On, Feel the Illinoise." Is that way old school?
I wrote a pretty scathing review of this movie for my University's "paper." Of course, my rage was partly induced by how badly they managed to botch the adaptation. No feel for nuance there. Let's just take the book word for word and put it on the screen with bad actors and make absolutely no choices. Ugh. I second this nomination.
Oh, man! I can't listen to this song anymore after reading your comment. And it was so close to being a perfect album for me. That being said, album of the year anyone? Nothing else I've heard this year comes close.
Nobody? http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_eEIokC5wLa4/SqbVULDvbzI/AAAAAAAAAh8/IoRJWF0kVYI/s320/safemen.jpg
That's actually one of the things I love about Aaron Sorkin's writing. I wish everyone walked around all day being ultra witty and smarty pantsish. I would like people more.
