That's right, I have TKOL over The Bends. Don't get me wrong, The Bends is near perfect, but it's a completely different band and we all know it. Best album by On A Friday? For sure! 1. Kid A 2. In Rainbows 3. OK Computer 4. Amnesiac 5. HTTT 6. A Moon Shaped Pool 7. TKOL 8. The Bends 9. Pablo Honey
I possess it. Cousin of mine in DC at the time got it for me from a place that was hawking it.
You're right, it's not an official church position by any means. Never stopped people from believing and teaching it (and other things) in my sphere on occasion. If only "official position" had more sway on the average Sunday School teacher.
Sounds like the stuff I was incorrectly taught. I’m gonna guess Mormon?
I think I switch Gore and S/T but I kinda like this setup here.
That Bends - OKC - Kid A progression is one of the most astounding in music history. If people ask about Radiohead, I usually send them on that journey, and then say throw a dart.
I think Gore is great. I had a really painful divorce the year that came out, and it channelled a lot of the existential pain and anguish that came with that (long with Radiohead's Moon Shaped Pool and James Blake's The Colour in Anything)
They're one of those bands where each album has its turn as my favorite depending on my mood. But I seriously think Koi no Yokan and Diamond Eyes are about as good as White Pony. They'll never have the cultural clout, but every bit as enjoyable in my book.
It's a common thing with all the greats I think. What Beatles album do you start with? Yeah, I'm putting Deftones in the same convo as the Beatles. What of it?
Been pledging my allegiance since Around the Fur and feel like I've spent the better part of the last decade waiting for the commentariat to finally catch up. Wonder if they'll finally start showing up on End-Of-Year's outside of Kerrang and Loudwire? Haha. So ready for this album.
I agree with that, Raptor. Deftones are one of those bands whose journey is a wild ride if you have the patience. Adrenaline might not be the best "first impression" these days, but hearing that three album progression gives a great sense of who they are. I do the same thing with Radiohead (although, depending on the person asking, I usually say start with The Bends :D )
What’s even better is some of these children are in their 20’s
Is the distinction between believing the words of a victim vs. believing everyone is a victim not obvious? Why are we meant to conflate the two? I think it’s also obvious how this could negatively affect someone who’s livelihood is maintained by public image. If he is indeed guilty, he deserves the consequences (I haven’t even mentioned that MJK is one of my favorite frontmen of all time). But the longer this particular story goes on the more it seems to be a troll. I’m all about giving women more benefit of the doubt with this stuff. It’s long over due. But I refuse to perpetuate slander for the sake of aligning myself with the hottest #movement of the hour. Let’s not throw reason out the door with these things. It distracts from the true problems.
Couple thoughts: It’s horrible how this girl is being treated by Tool homers. Not cool in the slightest. Having said that, we literally have no idea what happened. It is great that victims feel more power to come out with things like this and be heard. I will always believe a victim, but having been falsely accused of similarly serious allegations by vindictive exes myself, I simply don’t believe that everyone claiming to be a victim actually is. It’s just my experience that it’s entirely possible that women also lie about this shit too. So, fact is we don’t know. The allegations should be taken seriously and certainly not dismissed. But forgive me if I’m reluctant to grab the pitchfork. One side note, anyone else think it’s silly she’s blaming him for HPV? Literally anyone who is sexually actively will likely be infected by it at least once in their lifetime regardless. Monogamous or not. Just thought that was a somewhat frivolous detail to include. Anyway, may truth and justice prevail, regardless. Let’s try to maintain a civil society, shall we?
Actually agree. I went back and listened after a decade of saying other wise, and it isn't even close to as bad as I remember, and especially not as bad as the bandwagon groupthink hate machine suggests.
I came here to basically say what you just said. But it’s not the first time Tom has casually dismissed Silverchair or Daniel Johns with an ignorant and elistis flair only he is capable of. It’s embarrassing, but I suppose not all that surprising, that Tom perpetuates America’s unfortunate overlook of this talent by stapling them to the music they made as teenagers in fucking 1995. I just figure music journalists would try harder than the average nerd, I suppose. Anyone familiar with Silverchair or Johns won’t be surprised by this collaboration at all. Steele was a guests instrumentalist on Young Modern over ten years ago and the two have been friends and collaborators for a long time.
I can’t imagine anyone will see this comment 120+ down the line now but this “article” is some mad, self-righteous drivel... and it’s bad even for Tom. It’s like JT bullied him in high school or something. Are we really to understand Chainsmokers and T Swift are more worthy than this? Fuck off with that noise.
