so very proud to have this festival in my hometown. if the other big rumor (Bjork) is confirmed tomorrow, this will be unlike any lineup Houston has ever seen.
Hey! They're also the headlining act of the first night (11/04) of Sound On Sound
This is absolutely amazing.
I saw them at FPSF here in Houston that weekend and I left their set thinking 'Big Grams was built for summer music festivals'
can someone please explain to me why that synth at 2:31 sounds so fucking satisfying ?
wtf is going on with that keyboard bit-at the beginning- it sounds like when the last bit of water drains from the bathtub and then the strings... absolutely heart-wrenching
Wow. This one really surprised me. I guess after hearing Burn the Witch, I thought this album would be more of that 'frenzied-focused' sound with orchestration throughout. Not to say we didn't get more of that but I wasn't expecting to have so many songs that sound wide open. I feel like I've got lots of room to breathe and get lost in the background details of alot of these tracks.
"You're all on ecstasy anyway" "Has everyone here accepted Jesus Christ into their hearts? I know some of you are struggling with drugs and alcohol today. You should be ashamed over yourselves" *Crowd screams excitedly* "Shh! My feelings!" "We've got the cutest teens in America I swear to God" "I can just hear the webcast viewers switching their web browsers to PornHub" Solid festival banter from Josh Tillman
THANK YOU! I thought I was a little nuts for thinking that piano was very much similar to "Pyramid Song"
what a fuckin jam! love the beat repeat fake outs and then that bass riff is just nasty. can't wait to see them in austin!
pigfuck A late '80s musical style that pre-dates the music of grunge. Gritty, dirty, and noisy. Sonic Youth, Big Black, and the Butthole Surfers are the most well know purveyors of this type of rock music. "Alot of this pigfuck music is terrible, but at least it isn't as commercial as some other groups are." http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pigfuck
*moment on "Positive Tension"
Awesome write up- like so many others here I've got really fond memories of this album. After months of saving I was finally able to put a CD deck in my '96 Pontiac Grand Prix.. was at a Best Buy waiting for it to be installed when I realized my CD collection was still at the house and I wouldn't be able to enjoy the new system on my way home without anything to put it in! After thinking about going with a band I was familiar with the artwork of Silent Alarm caught my eye. I don't remember hesitating after picking it up, it just felt like the right thing to buy. Launched into the intro track and was just floored by what I was listening to. Goosebumps. That moment on where everything sounds like its falling down around you. I just tried to "play it cool..." I've never had such a kismet moment with a debut album since then. Thanks for giving it the attention it really does deserve.
this album is making want to fall in love again
I really hope they release the visual component to his shows he put on last year. Danny Perez did a masterful job piecing together images that fit the mood of this album. His show at Austin Psych Fest last year might be one of the most memorable shows I've ever seen. Really hope Noah tours some more this summer.. I wonder how this set would play out a more traditional festival?
check right next to the soundcloud <3
his Jay Z could've used some work but i'm guessing he heard Jay Pharoah's impression (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOi0Cc52LFk) and gave up that clip cracks me up though- he does Katt around 3:30.. maybe he gave Drizzy some pointers!
Speaking of Dankey Kang! Ryan Hemsworth remixed a Danny Brown track he dubbed a "Dankey Kang Bootleg" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmUq-9pjM6U I wonder if she's a fan...
