My brother actually pointed out to me - that verse he raps is from his EP that came out several years ago. The song is "I Am". But he's also used that line in a few of his older songs: "I told you plan B was to win your hearts before I win a Grammy."
Oh... and also Julian Casablancas + The Voidz. I thought it would appear on the list because of how much it was talked about on Gum. And everyone who wrote articles for the album seemed to really dig it.
I guess I lose some indie-cred points for name-dropping some of the following artists: Ryan Adams, Conor Oberst, Beck, The Antlers, Elbow, Hamilton Leithauser, Mac Demarco I know Kevin Drew, Jack White, TV on the Radio, and Interpol didn't quite hit the mark for Stereogum's "best of the year" standards, so I can understand the omission of those artists. But the others I named are really great albums. I was surprised to not see any of them.
Ha, I was scrolling through the comments looking for some Amnesiac love. I finally found it. That record is way underrated apparently. I think it's genius.
Mistress is possibly my favorite song he's ever written. Sounds so great with Questlove on drums.
Wow. Nobody seems to like "29". That is very strange to me. I think it's my favorite Ryan Adams record.
My favorite Cat Power song has got to be "Where Is My Love?"
Why are you comparing the two? They are so different.
Techically, it's just "Fleet"! If you're filling in the blank.
AMAZING. Can't wait for the vinyl to show up on my doorstep.
That little vocal break-down thing he does around 2:30 reminds me of the "ooh, ahh, guess you never meant it" part in the song, "By the Way". It's so identical - they had to've done it on purpose.
I loved The Tree of Life so much. And Drive was also so great. There are a ton of movies I still haven't seen yet: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Melancholia, Bellflower, Beginners, Submarine, Midnight in Paris, Hugo, The Artist, American - The Bill Hicks Story, Cowboys & Aliens, Our Idiot Brother, The Rum Diary, The Muppets, 50/50, The Descendants, and Take Shelter. Although, of the movies I saw this year, here is my list: 1) The Tree of Life 2) Drive 3) Inni 4) The King's Speech 5) Bridesmaids 6) Super 8 7) Conan O'Brien Can't Stop 8) Biutiful 9) Win Win 10) Hesher Honorable mentions: Life In A Day / The Music Never Stopped.
That was pretty awesome. The lighting was incredible.
I'm super duper confused with the lack of Feist, Ryan Adams, Iron and Wine, My Morning Jacket, Wilco, Wu Lyf, Beirut, and Radiohead on almost every one of the lists I've seen this year (SPIN, P4K, Stereogum...) Paste Magazine seems to be the only website that I agree with.
Am I the only one who thought this video kicked major ass. I've watched it 3 times today. It has such a fun and explosive presence about it... and no, not because the girl is literally exploding things.
