Oh wow interesting. going to try listening thru w/ that narrative in mind. I think the ending is what always made me think of it as a love triangle -- "i am flawed if i'm not free, and your husband will never leave you, he will never leave you for me."
Oh wow. good catch. i remember having a conversation with the folks i mentioned, them saying, "this is jenny lewis singing, you'd like her" and listening to the whole postal service record. and i know i've watched her and ben gibbard do this one live before so i always assumed it was her singing on the record. thanks for clarifying this for me!
i actually did cover Total Bummer last year, not for stereogum though http://thephoenix.com/boston/music/138728-total-bummer-fest-and-the-quest-for-a-local-scene/ it was such a great festival. sadly i don't think i can make it down to florida this year
usually the illegal aspect is that they sometimes violate noise ordinances
there's nothing wrong with refusing to vote. it's up to the individual to do (or not do) what they feel strongly about.
