I absolutely love Paul Simon and his amazing run of songs, but I can't for the life of me enjoy this song or understand why it is so popular. It just doesn't work for me. I guess I don't like Art Garfunkels voice, is at least part of it. I'd take Only Living Boy In New York over this song any day... idk. Maybe its because I didn't have a religious upbringing. This song ranks as low as Long and Winding Road for me as a sort of whatever pretentious and boring song from an artist I otherwise find flawless.
I dunno I really admire this songs craft. Its still a really strong song in terms of song writing. Sort of like a riff on "you say tomato I say tamahto, lets call the whole thing off"
Yeah unfortunately dont expect people to listen to reason. Nobody should b saying the n word. During the 70s most black people felt that noone, black or white, should be saying the n word.
Man I love St. Vincent but something about her lately just seems to be missing the mark slightly. This video recalls some of her really good ones like Digital Witness but with none of the underlying artistic content. Really overuses that stupid butt shot too.
Shes trying to get that Ga Ga/ Katy Perry money. Its a little bit sad.
Dont you want a $1250 "extended experience" concert ticket? You get your picture with a guitar!*
*Note extended experience ticket does not include meeting with St. Vincent.
Yeah it sounds a little like The National except the chorus is way overdone/over the top and cliche... the harmonies sound generic and bad.
For a pop single, it needs to go bigger. (Give me a guitar solo/bridge after the final chorus. I mean c'mon!) For an indie song, it goes too big in the chorus and loses the intimate heart-on-the-sleeve feeling.
Its not as bad as I feared but its not good either.
I never understood people who idolize Lou Reed and then do heroin. To me, anyway, Heroin was the scariest thing and it certainly didnt make me want to try it.
"Heroin, be the death of me. Its my wife, and its my life."
Yikes...
I agree and also am disappointed by it. Only Tear It Down and I Aint the One deliver something worthwhile. The rest sounds... like its trying to hard. Most importantly the foundations of good music just arent there. Bad melodies, bad lyrics, and a bad rock-star-wannabe attitude.
Yeah agreed. Its probably the only Fridman album I love tho. He did good on MGMT but like.. damn usually he just effs things up. This Spoon album included.
I love spoon but this album kinda sucks. Many of the songs sound kinda date rapey and dochey. Even worse they have bad melodies and lyrics on par with Aeromsith circa livin on the edge. I aint the one and tear down wall or whatever its called are the only two good ones. Hot thoughts and can i sit are just barely ok. The rest is completel dreck.
We kind of need a new word for Racist is part of the problem. In the noble fight to identify micro-aggressions and minor stereotypes, I am afraid the accusation of being a racist has lost most of its sting.
yeh seriously. if this was like an indie rock guy with decent lyrics then sure yeah this would be fine. But like.... its a pop song.... with horrible horrible lyrics... you better have good vocals....
