I do remember thinking how strange it was that the Sun Kil Moon album completely flew under the radar. I hardly read one word about it all year.
I'll give them a little credit. "We Used to Wait", "White Sky" and "Everlasting Light" WERE the best songs on their respective albums, and I'm glad someone recognized it.
The Streets have had this fifth album in the works for what feels like forever.
This is the finest thing I've read on Stereogum in months. Thank you for encouraging me to give CocoRosie another shot.
With all these guest stars, is this shaping up to be Canada's answer to Gorillaz? Also, aren't the Dap-King Horns just, you know, the Dap-Kings?
Alas, I don't think this will ever happen again. I could see them pulling a Portishead or a Blur & wait until 2015 for a new record, but don't hold your breath. I think they're on an amicable hiatus.
To this point, I think the lowest-rated album I've seen on a Pitchfork year-end list (that I remember, I may be wrong) was Hot Chip's "Made in the Dark", which got a 7.0 and was still in the top 25.

No snark here. I'm just unbelievably excited for 2010.
Came here to say this. Better song than anything Gibbard/Tamborello/Owl City have done/will ever do.
I'm excited for this record, and here's why: I think I'm the only person on earth who thought Proof of Youth wasn't a carbon copy of Thunder Lightning Strike. TLS had the rush of novelty (in a good way) whereas PoY was a batch of ridiculously catchy pop songs. If you did a blind listening test with a group of people who had never heard a Go! Team record, I'd bet a majority of them would prefer PoY. They are a band that by all accounts should have faded into oblivion, but I think they have the chops to make a career of it. Parton is moving away from sampling and into classic songwriting? More power to him; I hope they pull it off. High hopes for this record.
Is being the Wes Anderson of indie music necessarily a good thing?
PJ Harvey opened for U2 when I saw them in 2001.
What an astounding set list. It's a shame I can't make it up to Detroit Lakes, MN (not MI) for 10KLF.
I initially read this as David Caruso, which was even funnier.
My god, talk about an earworm. I listened to it once, and yet Kele's voice has been ringing in my head for the last hour.
I agree with just about everything you said, except for the PBJ part. But hey, what's so bad about differing opinions?
I honestly don't hear what so many people (Jim DeRogatis, for instance) heard in putting Vivian Girls in their top-5's for 2008, but this really isn't bad. Like Rob S. said, "[t]his isn't any better or worse than 90% of what's passed off as indie rock". My only caveat: would it kill them to mix the vocals just a touch higher?
Let's be honest: if the White Stripes are recording songs now, they could easily release a full-length by the end of summer. It could be coming out next week, for all we know.
So wait, what was Annie Clark's role in all of this?
