Surprised that Kelly didn't get called to write this one considering this is the album with Metal Detektor on it https://www.stereogum.com/1809878/dear-spoon-thanks-for-playing-metal-detektor-last-night-love-kelly/concert/
Totally, it completely fucks everything. Split a group of my really close friends down the middle. Now my best friend is going on tour with the accused and there's nothing I can do or say to change anything.
Situations like this are very difficult - I know, I've dealt firsthand. As a witness, your first priority should always be to make sure the victim is in control of the situation, which consequently takes it somewhat out of your control.
Read through the thread on DIY Chicago. Quite a few people complained that there wasn't a whole lot of evidence, and then the OP ended up posting some anonymized conversations with alleged victims that have come forward. No specifics, but at least 2 people attesting to Ben's slimey-ness in the past. Also, weird but also tangential - someone talked about Ben's dad being especially handsy and acting in ways that made people uncomfortable on at least two occasions. Comment section got closed shortly after that.
Been following them from the start - seriously worth checking out.
Did you watch the video? She doesn't take this out on the genre or Vince at all. Her reaction is to "'never let her daughter listen to that station again." This video is being blown out of proportion as an anti-Vince meltdown, but it's really just a mom that 1) believes that playing an artist on the radio condones and encourages the lyrical content to listeners, and 2) sees a failure in the censorship of cuss words on the radio in preventing violent and disturbing content from reaching her children.
If you have the time, don't sleep on his earlier DIY work. Twin Fantasy is in my top 5 of all time. Every song on that album can and will get stuck in your head.
I second that! Please give Twin Fantasy a real shot - Teens of Denial is incredible, but Twin Fantasy is a masterpiece. It's a surprisingly focused album with recurring themes that are so catchy you start to forget that they're bits from a song, and instead, Will just started to play the line you've been humming for the last minute and a half.
Heard Clem from Cherry Glazerr is on one of these tracks
Can't wait for you all to hear this album. Costa Concordia and Just What I Needed are also killer tracks.
Was lucky enough to hear the full album through early. It's crazy good. I've been following Will for about 2 years now and he never ceases to amaze. This is a top 10 contender for 2016
Seems like a lot of you have listened to teens of style and are eagerly anticipating a new release? Dig into Will's back catalog (I beg you). You won't regret it. Twin fantasy is a masterpiece (in my top 10, easily) and how to leave town has some absolute jams (beast monster thing and kimochi warui come to mind at the moment). Teens of style drew a lot from his older material, so you've actually heard some of that already in a way, but you should definitely check Twin Fantasy and How to Leave Town.
C'mon guys. The job of an attorney is to provide a defense for their client. Everyone deserves a fair trial, no matter how sure we are that they are guilty.
Regardless of what actually happened, Dr. Luke still has the right to a fair trial, and it shouldn't matter the sex of his attorney. The job of an attorney isn't to endorse their client's behavior, it's to make sure the client is innocent until proven guilty. Christine is just carrying out her responsibilities as a hired attorney.
Not sure how this venue works, but the one I work at does their sound checks in reverse order. Headliner first, then openers, then the opener plays, then the headliner plays. Not sure what the deal was here, but let it be known that this does happen. So it's very possible that Deerhunter was already soundchecked and these were legitimate sound tech fuck-ups.
Extremely excited to see this. I discovered Car Seat Headrest this past year and got swept up with the extreme multitudes of released material. I'm glad I get to witness Will taking the next step and joining a label, because he deserves it many times over for all of the hard work he's put in over the years. For those who haven't listened before, you're in for a treat - it's not often that the "Band to Watch" has already released 11 albums. I agree with James, Twin Fantasy and How To Leave Town are great albums to look into, but there's so much more to explore if you enjoy those. Congrats Will, and thanks 'Gum. Great interview.
Sad to see flylo's not up for video of the year. His video for Never Catch Me is gorgeously put together. At least it showed up in choreography and cinematography
Also thought Spoon killed it. They were a highlight. Also thought Retribution Gospel Choir was incredible. I even saw Haley Bonar (who I wasn't too impressed with) show up and start singing along with every word. One lowlight though - only two tiny water filling stations (and none in the upper area). Missed out on joining the crowd for some great shows in order to wait in line for 30 minutes to an hour for for water.
