The new track with India Jordan is incredible. Have had it on repeat for like the last 24 hours.
could be worse, i guess.
I remember people first saying this in the lead up to Centipede Hz. What a journey it's been.
Also, the case with the LCD shows (and that part of Brooklyn in general) is that people are vaxxed, boosted, testing positive, AND showing symptoms. That's how people started realizing: they were coming down with symptoms a few days after the show. I don't think we'd be seeing the spike in testing here if people hadn't started coming down with symptoms first.
Was supposed to go tonight after not being able to go to an earlier show in the run due to a family emergency. Totally sucks and am very bummed, but based on the way things are going here in NYC (and all the posts about positive tests on the subreddit), this was the right move.
I've spent so much of the last decade letting vaporwave and its many offshoots overrun my musical taste, and I think it's largely just because I'm chasing the high of hearing this again for the first time.
The boys have still fucking got it. Hell yeah.
Everyone's aging and brushing that hair forward to hide the hairline.
Both funny and kind of a bummer because there were parts of Everyday Life where I was like, damn, maybe they still have some good stuff in them.
Having a straight up panic attack over that (correctly) being considered a big throwback. Got even more upset by looking up the release date for Ghost Stories, which I had generously prepped myself for being like 5 years old. God.
Only God Forgives is basically a response to everyone praising Drive. Love it.
This is fucking stupid, but it's also impressive that he's gone and made the album worse. If he had released it after the last listening party, he would've successfully hit the "he fixed the album/it's the best in ages" narrative and probably had a success. Now he's fucked up both the narrative and the actual album.
I remember a series of iTunes playlists (remember those?) made "in character" by different characters in The Office around S2 or so. Was able to just google Jim's because I remember it being very of the moment and lol: "Let the Cool Goddess Rust Away" - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah "Sing" - Travis "Rebellion (Lies)" - Arcade Fire "When I Laugh" - The Glands "Chicago" - Sufjan Stevens "Rich Girl" - Gwen Stafani (lol at the "i'm hip but can sitll like a pop song" choice) "California Stars" - Billy Bragg & Wilco "A Quick One, While He's Away" - The Who "Try Not to Breathe" - REM "Gone for Good" - The Shins "Drunk by Noon" - The Handsome Family
Came to this album a couple of years later (my high school years were 03-07), and I feel like I had the backwards experience of being into the garage rock revival first, hearing this, and going "wait, why the fuck isn't THIS everywhere?" Great write-up. Strange now to come back to this seemingly huge at the moment albums--both personally and within the blog music world--to think about the careers that might have been and the ones that weren't. Though, as Tom mentions, any band would be lucky to produce an album this singular and good. As an aside, was using "Glass Danse" recently as an alarm in the morning, which my partner referred to as "early onset midlife crisis." Probably right.
Actually have seen LOTS of people getting hyped for this, calling this "a bop," saying she's 3/3, etc on Twitter and elsewhere. As someone who really liked the previous two, I'd feel like I was going insane if not for the reactions here.
Surprised at how much I like the quieter moments, and though they still can't help themselves half the time, the overall restraint really works for me.
I like Futures a lot, though it's hard for me to tell how much of it is nostalgia (it's one of the first albums I remember looking forward to releasing), but I think the production on it is just a tad too clean and some of the middle songs don't stay with me as much. But mostly this just makes me want to go listen to it again.
Totally the same. Clarity became one of those albums I told everyone to listen to but Bleed American was the entry point for me and is still just some perfectly executed pop-punk.
Honestly pretty bummed/confused about Maus. Not surprised about Pink.
