Yeah, I'm not sure that he lost something, per se, but I definitely agree with you that the lane of Bon Iver, Bon Iver is what I'd prefer for him to continue in/return to.
Simply put, one of the best and most meaningful albums of my lifetime. (I'm about to turn 32.) I was totally shell-shocked after playing this for the first time, and I've come to know every corner of it. After taking a break from it and listening to it again now, though, it's hard not to get choked up thinking about a decade gone by and how much has changed. This album is just emotional, period. What is this salty discharge?
Imagine Radiohead coming out with Kid A, coming out with Amnesiac a year later and then following that up with the 14-track/57-minute long Hail to the Thief just TWO years later? Now we wait half-decades (and counting) for one record. Those were the days...
I'm very much in your camp here, but it's just futile to argue about things like this online, particularly on a music blog site. If people don't understand the definition of Zionism or claim that Israel is apartheid to begin with, having a debate is really a non-starter.
Even though "anti-Zionism" is just a cover for anti-Semitism, this ad from Shmuley should not have ever been made. It's unnecessarily incendiary and inappropriate, and will only continue to fan the flames of the dangerous rhetoric about this conflict.
