see, because now it's one in the morning and I'm already on my way back to work and all I am consumed by is the worry, the fear, that any delight the whale exhibits is just me personifying the whale- oh look, he's smiling (well, no, they always do that.) or oh, he's clearly dancing at the end (because floating up and down is dancing?) What I'm saying is I would like some scientific proof that whales dance like this so I can know if he was, in fact, truly enjoying himself before I can allow myself this win for the most charming thing. Happy (belated) birthday, Gabe.
Quite, actually. It's more than a little upsetting, but she was pretty good.
that new ford fiesta commercial gets it. Also that braddock, pa levis ad is surprisingly touching (I'm in Pa. that's why) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p63BwVm_ojw
and with that, it suddenly has. Thanks Mufasa.
No, you know what I saw this weekend because it was like, 100 degrees and I needed air conditioning and it's July? Get him to the Greek. The worst. Just a pathetic effort on the part of everyone involved- an ugly movie that had no grasp on humanity (at first, with Elizabeth Moss' character I thought it was women who they just didn't get, but nobody made sense in that movie) that made my bad weekend (got dumped! yay) exponentially worse. There was nothing redeeming about that movie, made by adults for adults, and it almost makes me wish that I had seen eclipse instead because while I wouldn't have understood it (who is that girl, why can't she just pick a boy and be happy for a bit, I mean, they're twelve, what's the hurry with all the marriage stuff?) it probably at least would have given me some sort of honest depiction of a kind of human emotion.
this and Savage Love are the only reason I wake up on Wednesday monrings and slog through my day, and this: "unrequited interspecies sex-wanting" is the phrase that will make the rest of the days until next wednesday bareable. Jus' sayin'

this thing made me both incurably sad and also very angry, but there's a little joy to be found. http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2010/02/a-conversation-with-ryan-sorba.html
that's heartbreaking. I mean, I don't speak puppy, but that doesn't sound like happy.
Up's ellie is more developed and a role model than almost anything you get in the other movies, An Education aside. Sure, she dies within the first 15 minutes, but she is the reason he does adventure, without her he never would have gone on any adventure, so this idea that women aren't for adventure is b.s. and to calm your fears that women are to be written out of animation, Pixar's next two movies have girl protagonists, so, you know, relax a little.
what I really appreciate about this compilation is that someone can be on both the best and worst people list...condemnation and redemption, so close together, leaving me with that slightly sick feeling when you're in someplace very grimy and gross but with the knowledge there's wet wipes and clean clothes at the end of the hall.
honest honest, I wish I was Lance Bangs.
but could he play the guitar and rope a steer before he learned to stand?
joss whedon already made the best offer. (three, technically): http://whedonesque.com/comments/22240
There were two complaints I had about this movie and since the first one has to do with how I feel, sometimes, about david eggers, I'll leave it out. The fact that max doesn't return home to a bowl of soup waiting for me really changed things for me. I know it sounds pretty dumb, but the book was about there being a place for you, no matter what, but this movie, because it had to be extended and because it was a movie, played more to growing into a more mature being. He had to learn to see it from the other sides before he could go back, and although i loved it, and i cried at the end, all of me wanted that soup bowl to be in his room, waiting, even if it didn't make total sense. I know, he ate like, five seconds after coming home, but the message change kinda sticks with me. but, sadly, as an adult (ish) I wanted to howl with max on the way home too. I would have if I didn't have a sense of shame attached to being loud in public.
I know, it's hard. He was always my favorite coen.
Oh, I was pretty excited after the second episode. but maybe I just have a directing crush on the Russo brothers.
Dr. Strangelove Actually is just about all sorts of perfect.
