Find yourself someone who makes your life as much fun as Tom had writing these blurbs.
The only time I ever got sent to the office at school was the day I wore my Vulgar Display of Power shirt. I went to a Catholic high school, and we had to wear uniforms, but every once in a while we would have a "dress down day" where we could wear jeans/t-shirts/etc. My English teacher took one look at my shirt and sent me to the vice-principal's office. The VP asked me "what made you think it was appropriate to wear a shirt like that?", and I, somewhat flustered in this unfamiliar situation, replied "it's just a visual representation of the power of the music." (I had to go home and change).
3-for-3 on the singles. Really looking forward to this album.
If Eminem kneels in tribute to Colin Kaepernick, it will immediately be the best thing he's done in 20 years.
Bit of a slow week for me. Not interested in Spoon or Big Thief, and even the new Napalm Death is only an EP. Also I'm now a year closer to 50. But I'm well into triple digit plays of the new Kreator song, so I guess that's something?
Vacuous can be highly entertaining in the right context (see my comment below re: inflatable Harley-Davidsons and drum kit rollercoasters).
FWIW, if "still performing, still releasing stuff" is the standard, Motley Crue released new music in 2019 and will be touring stadiums later this year.
I've also seen them both live. You clearly don't appreciate the finer points of inflatable Harley-Davidsons and drum kit rollercoasters.
I don't think I could even put a number on how much more time I've spent listening to Motley Crue than Pearl Jam in my life (but if I did, it would be a very large number).
There are a lot of things you could say about Motley Crue, but "boring" is definitely not one of them.
I don't have an opinion on GY!BE one way or the other, but speaking of long-lost cassettes, if anyone has a copy of Weeping Tile's This Great Black Night EP, hit me up.
Oh, and one MORE thing: the new Venom Prison album came out yesterday, and supposedly "Erebos is to Samsara what Heartwork was to Reek Of Putrefecation" (per Metal Hammer), so do with that what you will.
Oh, and one more thing: the new Arch Enemy single (and video) is gloriously cheesy, if you like that sort of thing (as I do) \m/
And while you're at it you can preorder the new Kreator album (produced by Arthur Rizk), out June 3rd, they just dropped the title track today and it absolutely RIPS: https://kreator.bandcamp.com/
I'm gonna drop a Bandcamp recommendation here for the debut full-length from Vorga, Striving Toward Oblivion. Atmospheric black metal, space-themed but not too spacey, this thing's got RIFFS: https://vorgaband.bandcamp.com/album/striving-toward-oblivion-black-metal
Congratulations Pads (and welcome to the world Elliott)!
Yeah, this is awesome. It even SOUNDS awesome - there's a riff on "Mutual Ruin" where I swear the guitar tone is straight off of Left Hand Path. Instant AOTY contender for me.
Their last album, Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It, was just as good as this one, if not better, I'd suggest starting there.
"Anal Pickaxe Maceration"? Sounds charming! Seconded on the Mental Devastation album, it's great - Ian nailed it in last month's Black Market: "if you like thrash, this is your thrash album for 2022".
