i dont like how NBC is mainly smart/cute funny, opposed to smart/mean funny. miss the Will Ferrell days of SNL when he could do a sketch like "Happy Smile Patrol", probably one of the sickest/graphic sketches in SNL history. Paul Brittain/Bill Hader seem like legit bros w/Ferrel like potential for subversiveness. Digital Short guys are now too cute for their own good. If I ever meet one of em, I'd just like to be like, "Hey guys, remember when you had balls?" seems like when they first started they were hungry, but are now content being apart of SNL establishment, ala Jimmy Fallon. Dude gave it a try, failed miserably, and came back crying to Lorne Michaels. Now he's doing his cute guy routine everynight nerding out with Steve Martin, Martin Short, and every other big name SNL alum promoting it, NBC, and NBC related shows/movies (through their parent company). Maybe I'm just too cynical to enjoy SNL, which I could easily overlook, if it was actually funny.
I spend a lot of time on tumblr these days, and thats how it was discovered, i think, and thats where all the buzz originated here in the states. Theres also another UK show called Misfits, thats super popular on tumblr, which they're already planning a U.S. version of... so chalk this up as an obvious attempt to co-opt an internet culture. the millions of little tween-teenage consumers will prob eat it up. the smarter ones will migrate to the uk version. MTV doesn't start trends anymore. lucked out with Jersey Shore. they're establishment-internet-vampires always scouring the internet for what is really resonating with youth, then sucking whatever truth is in it to make it consumer ready. i really wish Jersey Shore didnt exist, MTV was on the verge of death, and that piece of shit show resurrected it.
North Carolinans are so dumb they care about other states issues. Soon you'll have candidates in North Carolina saying that New York should increase subway fares to fund North Carolina wine mixers.
Dear Pope, thank you for allowing the spread of Groats Disease. Just kidding.
That shot of Josh Brolin reminded me of the goonies. You know that scene when he runs outside and is all "They took my bike! Im gonna ..!!"
I also was looking forward to the "Amelie" bashing. Amelia is too easy a target.
I only knew of Amelia Earhart because she was in this "Mysteries and Monsters" book I had when I was 7. And in it she crashed in The Bermuda Triangle and there was this rad picture of her on the bottom of the sea as a skeleton with seaweed all over her and she was wearing her aviator outfit. But that doesnt have anything to do with the movie.
Indian Food is fucking delicious.
SNL has no edge left. I'm bored with it. I probably won't watch at all this year. i'll let the grandmas on MSNBC yap about the latest political sketch, and wonder why this grandma show still has indie cred. *shrugs*
So Lady GaGa is indirectly supporting both wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? What a sell out.
Decent list there, I was expecting obvious choices, but with 500 Days of Summer and American Beauty on there.. thats going after some sacred cows. Good work. By the way, wtf is up with all of these gif-replies, kinda annoying.
the vmas are a symbol of how ludicrous, superficial, and meaningless pop music is. after all, MTV doesn't even play music videos. no one cares because its merely an opportunity to shill their products upon the millions of consumers out there.. no one shows up unless they're 1. going to win 2. have a movie/album to promote. Eminem won 3 awards and wasn't even there. The grammy's are the same story. Culturally relevant music is not in the mainstream, it exists on the internet. Our generation is not being represented at all... and who cares. We don't need MTV. I don't need to see Animal Collective sitting next to the cast of Jersey Shore. You MTV fans out there can listen to Usher, pay to see some shitty movie Hollywood is promoting, and I'll be over here glad that you idiots aren't apart of my scene.
I think I would enjoy the comics a lot more than I did the movie, because Edgar Wright's directorial style is so superficial/lame/boring/dumb. I thought it was pretty funny, and again, I'm pretty sure this had to do with scenes/lines lifted directly from the comics. I might just illegally download pdf files of the entire scott pilgrim series. Glad to see the nerds get a dose of reality this weekend via dismal box office. "blah blah cult hit dvd sales blah blah" shut up nerds.
you're right. the show just really pissed me off.
I'm convinced that most of the people still watching MTV are in their 20's desperately clinging on to it because they think its hip and are uncomfortable with their age. I think the same people running MTV are the same people that have been running it since I was watching. That's really scary. A room full of 50 year old executives having brainstorms about what the kids should watch and also struggling with a desperate need to relate to teenagers, but it coming out really creepy and stupid... like the show they immediately premiered after the MTV awards about a kid in high school with a huge dick. MTV itself is an irrelevant ugly monster feeding off of its past success and conglomerate status to forever ever exist, fooling dumb teenagers in America that this is their network. I hope every single person working at MTV gets colon cancer and fcking dies. I hate it. and I hated this show even more, the 5 or 10 mins of it I watched. Its the worst thing I've ever seen.
this sums up the show pretty well.. "we're just guys standing around doing stuff." - Season 7

I know its all entertainment, what irked me about Iron Man 2, and what i originally posted was that I found it particularly ethnocentric. And on one level it is just entertainment, but on another i have this theory that it perpetuates the right wing spin machine, the antiquated notion of superiority Americans feel over the rest of the world, and it justifies the military industrial complex, the idea that we need to maintain and invent new weaponry for some unseen force out there thats trying to attack us. more weapons, more war. When Don Cheadle flew off with one of the Iron Man suits and handed it over the military, I was disgusted, I imagined horrors of it being used on pakistani civilians, ect. I just thought it had zero insight about what the reality is in this country. therefore, iron man's complete irrelevancy = every single comic book ever made. I know there are cool, intelligent, relevant comics out there. Watchmen is one of my favorites. but all of this is me reading way too deeply into it, its Iron Man 2 for fcks sake, but in a way, attacking comic books/comic book films like Iron Man 2, is me against Right Wing America, its dumb, i know.
Its not like I'm on every post begging for acceptance via comment section Videogum Steve Winwood style. I say what I say, when I say it, which isn't that often... I'm just a dude, that occasionally brings it, its not really worth hating. I have no idea who you are and I really don't care. Hate all you want, bro-bro. Go have an imaginary beer in your imaginary bar with your imaginary friend Steve Winwood. I'm gonna keep rocking and rolling.
