yep, I saw them early on (half glass full of wine era) and wasn't that impressed. stumbled across them playing in 2012 however and they blew me away. had dropped the jamming / experimenting and were focused on producing a set that they could re-create each night. Seen them again since and they were just as good.
Hmm, so how much will these shadow albums differ from the deluxe reissues? or is it just that now you can get these tracks on vinyl? Came across the Father to a Sister of a Thought 7" in a record bin a couple of years ago for 5 bucks. Couldn't believe it.
Well, this beef meant that I finally got around to actually listening to The War on Drugs album so thanks a lot Mark because, damn yeah, they're really good!
He tried to get another band to do this recently (I can't remember who though?) and they refused so paul shaffer+co did a spot-on cover during the credits instead
This is the album that superseded Future Islands' Singles as my go to listen. Tracks like 'Heaven' are just unstoppable and easily make up for their somewhat lacklustre second album. The whole thing is just fantastic.
I'd happily cut a lot of their newer stuff in favour of the 2007-2009 years. Oh also, I know TIUF isn't that popular but it still has some great songs, especially considering the direction that Deerhunter's sound is now going.
Every time I see the name Fiery Furnaces I'm reminded of the song "Frosty Furnaces" by The Devoted Few about how they were really rude and unpleasant when on tour together. It's actually quite a good song.
