So... How bout that time you had sex with that girl while she was sleeping?
You did kind of suggest you were in that last paragraph. You have a silly job, although most of our jobs are probably silly if you really think about it.
Listen, it might have been a lame comment and Josh Groban might be a huge tool, but this ultra PC, offended by everything stuff annoys me to no end. And yes you have the right to be offended by whatever you want but I have the right to think you are crazy for it. I also understand turning something totally non news worthy into a clickable headline and post is part of Chris DeVille's job so no one can really give him too much shit. Who knows how offended he actually is.
I need to listen to Annie again, but I remember not really feeling it. That said this is a great fucking song. Gotta evolve at least a little right?
I actually have a few pop songs I like this year and an understanding of what we are looking for in a "Song of the Summer". I'll gladly listen to "Bad Blood" "Want You To Want Me" or "Can't Feel My Face" if I hear them on the radio... "Good Times" is obviously a contender, what else... Something off Currents could maybe work. I've listened to AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP a ton but IDK if there are any obvious SOTS. I've been listening to a lot of hip hop radio, they play "All Day" a lot, that could work. Something off DS2 maybe?
That's some mark up on the liquor, I guess they aren't charging him for renting out the actual space... If I were him I'd bitch about paying a 22% gratuity on the personal firework & pyro controller. Feel like the tip should only be on the liquor.
Am I the only one who loved Dan Deacon's album? Haven't heard many people talking about it, didn't seem to get much attention when it came out. That along with Kindred by Passion Pit would be my two biggest ommissions, at least that I didn't see mentioned. Natalie Prass is my fav album so far this year FWIW
Because Stereogum has never liked Panda Bear!
I'll be at pitchfork fest Saturday and Sunday. I'm 6'5 and I have a black beard. Wear the 311 shirt, I'd crack up if I saw you irl. Off the top of my head I know I'll be at Future Islands on Saturday
Was just talking to a friend about how I was surprised it was so impossible to get a ticket to one of the chicago shows. They are doing 3 days at a stadium, that's a lot of seats. Wasn't the last dead show whenever the last time Jerry Garcia performed? Phil Lesh is 74, how good is he going to sound. And I like Trey but he isn't in the band, if he is singing it's basically a cover band. I'm sure if you are a hippy it's a really fun time but I can't see them sounding good, especially at such a huge venue. I guess I just underestimated deadheads' commitment.
"but a breeze that drifts like a breeze, dude?" I'm assuming this should have read "but a breeze that drifts like a breeze? Dude." Get it together mr. mayonaise.
Didn't know you were gay, your comments are very masculine... I still say I encounter people all the time who I'm positive are gay and I'm not wrong very often. Not that I could prove it or that it would be possible to prove whether gay men or straight men as a whole are more "effemenate" (getting sick of that word) Anyways, knowing you are a gay dude I shouldn't have called your point of view ridiculous although I think it's ok if I'm not fully convinced. I don't think I'm ever going to use the word effeminate again though.
I noticed what I posted had ... in it after I posted it. I guess it's a more full quote, not the full quote. I still haven't heard his words but I did listen to his response to the controversy yesterday. Basically said he is used to people misquoting him for a headline and that he didn't think saying that somebody was gay was an insult and talked about his support for the gay community. Then he talked about getting in trouble for making fun of Aspergers and that he didn't even know what Aspergers was he just thought the word was funny because it had "Ass" and "Burgers" in it. IDK, I think he is entertaining as all hell. Of course he isn't for everyone and anybody has a right to think some of his less PC jokes (or any of his jokes) are unfunny, just don't come down on my for thinking that they are. Most of his audience can hear someone on the show doing a gay voice and understand that not all gay people talk like that. Also (while we are stereotyping) think about how many of his listeners are those East Coast meathead types we have all heard about. How many people has he opened up to the idea that being gay isn't something to be ashamed of and that we should encourage people to be themselves? And for those few people who don't know the difference between making a joke about something and actively being against it? To me that is on them, why should people who do understand nuance have to suffer? Certain subjects should be left to the professionals, I don't make gay jokes or black jokes, except maybe to a very select audience, because I'm not funny or clever enough to pull it off. But some people can pull it off, if it's funny it's funny, no matter the subject. For me the test for if a joke is good is whether or not it makes me laugh. Anything more would be overthinking.
The more I think about this the more ridiculous it is. You've never met someone and thought they were gay??
Listen, I live in a community with a significant gay population. I encounter people every day who I can tell are gay by the way they talk and move. They usually aren't flaming gay caricatures, most of the times its much more subtle, but I can tell. You can tell me about the definition of the word stereotype all night but you can't tell me this is all in my head. I also understand that some gay men are way more traditionally manly than me and I would never in a million years guess that they were gay. But my point is sometimes you can tell someone is gay because they have mannerisms that come off to some varying degree effeminate. Stereotype or not you can't tell me otherwise.
Here is the full quote Oh, is he gay? He looks gay to me. Not that anybody looks gay, but he does seem effeminate. Cool. I like that he’s chubby and gay. That’s why I love him. He’s one of those guys I feel like, he’s really good but I feel like that will be his only hit song… That’s how good that song is. He’s fat and gay and little girls worship him. That’s when you know you have a good song and a good voice… I’d like to get him in here and congratulate him on beating the odds." He says he thinks its funny that he is fat and gay and little girls worship him and that he would like to congratulate him on his success. C'mon...
Lest anyone think Stern is homophobic... I truly didn't know referring to a gay person as effeminate was offensive. A lot(not all) of gay people I know do have that gay accent and have some mannerisms that I would describe as effeminate. Is there a different word that would be more appropriate? I haven't heard the comments in context yet but I'm guessing he was commenting on how he has this beautiful voice but at the same time he is kind of a weird looking guy. No problem with SS responding but IDK if anyone needs to be outraged on his behalf. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Smith will be a guest on the Stern show in the near future a la Lena Dunham.
