Pumped for the new Katie Dey album! If you haven’t given Crack Cloud’s new album “Pain Olympics” a listen, it is absolutely wonderful. It came out last week and I’ve been grooving to it ever since. A huge collective of artists putting together a genre bending weirdo punk adventure.
The self titled album by Crack Cloud that came out on June 1st is still in heavy rotation for me. Thought I'd mention it as I've seen zero press for it. It's weirdo punk, listing as Gang of Four, Fela Kuti, and Talking Heads, all as influences. It's quirky, funky, messy, and a heck of a good time. The guitar work reminds me of Women. Damn good stuff.
Yamantaka // Sonic Titan's new album "Dirt" came out this week and it is MASSIVE. Not sure why it isn't getting any press, but boy is it a beast. Please please please check it out. The idea behind it is that it is a theoretical soundtrack for an unreleased anime from 1987.
What was your personal top 10? I'm intrigued!
Everything keeps jumping around for me, but this is what I have come up with: 1. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN. 2. Tyler, the Creator - Flower Boy 3. Sampha - Process 4. Moses Sumney - Aromanticism 5. Thundercat - Drunk 6. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Polygondwanaland, Murder of the Universe, Flying Microtonal Banana, Sketches of Brunswick East (Is this breaking the rules? Yes? OH WELL) 7. Wolf Alice - Visions of a Life 8. Lorde - Melodrama 9. Charly Bliss - Guppy 10. Thee Oh Sees - Orc 11. Jay Som - Everybody Works 12. Priests - Nothing Feels Natural 13. Perfume Genius - No Shape 14. Hurray for the Riff Raff - The Navigator 15. (Sandy) Alex G - Rocket 16. The Mysterons - Meandering 17. King Krule - The Ooz 18. Alex Cameron - Forced Witness 19. Julie Byrne - Not Even Happiness 20. The National - Sleep Well Beast
Good Boy - Shirk Life is so dang good and needs to get more attention. Just some fun loving garage rock from Melbourne. The chorus of "Consume, You Yuppy Dogs" is SO GOOD.
Yes! I stumbled upon this album last night while searching through Bandcamp and was extremely surprised. I am by no means a metal listener and tend to have a hard time with with the less melodic stuff, but this hits that sweet spot of melody, riff, and thickness. I am enjoying it a lot.
Other than King Gizzard, who else comes to mind who is pumping out some good stuff recently? Just curious.
I mean, Jai Paul's demo album is one of the best "albums" of the decade IMO. But yes, BTSTU and Jasmine have gotten him on so many radars.
Jay Watson of Tame Impala is a beast. I would also include Greg Suanier and Chris Talbot.
All time favourite album. The only album I have ever been able to return to whenever and hear it like it's my first time. You know it's something special when you get chills every single time it kicks in all the way in "I'll Believe in Anything". Seriously a magical album. "Modern World" is a masterpiece of a song. "This Heart's on Fire" is my favourite album closer ever and usually ends up finishing any mix I am creating because it is just that damn good. The raw energy of each and every song on this album is why it stands the test of time. You can feel every single moment with Boeckner and Krug.
Dig it. They have fun and it shows in their music
I'm surprised people aren't talking about Kamasi Washington's The Epic more. It's one of the best jazz albums of our generation and a powerhouse of musicianship. So far this year, The Epic, Black Messiah (if it counts), and TPAB are tied for my #1 spot. Sufjan is a close 2nd while Jamie xx, Milk Carton Kids, and Donny Trumpet round out the top 5. This year has been monstrous and is only getting better.
Wasn't Robert Glasper on there? Maybe I am crazy and just thought that up because he tends to work with Terrace Martin.
Gun by CHVRCHES Warm in the Winter by Glass Candy Black Skinhead by Kanye West Chain Smoker by Chance the Rapper Sea of Love by The National On Your Own by Fryars 5AM in Toronto by Drake
Gotta say, after his SNL performance I was really scared for this album. I just wasn't into either song at all. But after listening through this album multiple times, I can say my worries were all for nothing. This album is really sweet. I like how dark and messed up it is, especially coming directly after an album titled "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy", which wasn't as dark as this. It's like he himself is darker and more angry than any fantasy he could think up. Also, Hold My Liquor gives me chills every time it breaks before his first verse. Gorgeous.
Peacebone. Enough said.
Yep. I think she is starting to sound all the same. Except for Jumanji. That has a really cool beat.
Naw his first album I was meh on but it grew on me as well. Although I definitely see where you are coming from. Pavlov's Dog shit
